PAY RANGE: $120K - $150K Based on experience, education and qualifications.
Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations, internal controls, policy and tax compliance, financial reporting, and external audit support for the Diocese of Orange Pastoral Center.
Responsibilities
Because all Diocese of Orange employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.
The position of Accounting Manager consists of the following duties:
- Manages a team of AP, AR, GL, and Financial Reporting professionals.
- Ensures Pastoral Center maintains an accurate and complete accounting of all financial activities in accordance with Diocesan accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Oversees the accurate and timely preparation of department financials (P&L) and monthly financial package (P&L, BS, CF, and supplemental schedules).
- Oversees the accurate and timely preparation of annual GAAP financial statements for external audits.
- Ensures accurate and timely preparation of the assigned PBC items for external audits.
- Maintains a system of internal controls over accounting transactions and reporting.
- Maintains a disciplined closing process, ensuring activities on the Accounting Checklist, JE Log, and Account Reconciliation Log are completed in a timely manner.
- Coordinates the monthly accounting close of subsidiary ledgers and the GL and approves/posts all JEs by day 5.
- Ensures all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and reviewed on a monthly basis by day 10.
- Assists in the development of annual budgets for the assigned departments and/or activities.
- Maintains accounting periods and chart of accounts in NetSuite.
- Reviews and approves changes to the vendor master.
- Reviews and approves AP vendor bill credits, check/ACH voids, vendor bill cancellations, AR credit memos.
- Reviews and approves cash counts and deposits.
- Safekeeps and approves the use of credit card terminals.
- Oversees compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- BS in Accounting and an active CPA license.
- 5+ years of accounting including 2+ years of audit experience in a public accounting firm.
- Advanced skills in Excel and enterprise accounting systems, preferably NetSuite.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service, maintaining a positive attitude under pressure.
- Accurate, detail oriented, and a quick learner.
- Ability to prioritize and complete assignments timely.
- Ability to communicate effectively one to one and in group settings.
- Alignment with the mission of the Catholic Church.

Work Conditions
- The position primarily involves work in an office setting within the administrative offices, requiring frequent use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers, and filing systems.
- Evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate and meet deadlines.
- Must be available to adjust the work schedule as needed to meet the needs of the organization.
- Regular interaction with pastoral center staff and parish/school staff as needed.
- Some local travel may be required for parish/school and diocesan meetings or events.
Physical Requirements
- Sedentary work, ability to remain seated for extended periods while performing administrative tasks.
- Occasionally walking, standing, and moving around the office building to support other departments.
- Fine motor skills, manual dexterity required for operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, mouses, printers, and handling documents.
- Vision requirements, clear vision is essential for analyzing data and reading documents or information on screens.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others in person, in writing and through digital platforms.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry items up to 30 pounds, such as meeting materials or supplies.
