This bookkeeping position is part of a faithful, dynamic, enthusiastic team, and plays an integral role in the mission of St. Joseph Parish. This collaborative role exists to ensure accuracy in financial reporting, financial reconciliations, accounts payable, payroll, and human resources.
Essential Job Functions:
Financial Reporting
• Manage the offertory counting procedures and monitor internal controls to ensure safeguarding of the collections.
• Prepare regular reports and analysis for the Pastor, parish staff and Finance Council
• In collaboration with the Pastor and parish staff, prepare annual budget for the parish.
• Monitor operating budgets for the parish.
• Responsible for parish operational and financial records.
• Prepare annual reports to the Diocese of Paterson.
• Issue annual contribution statements to parishioners.
• Ensure the existence of a verifiable audit trail for all financial transactions.
Financial Reconciliations
• Record weekly collections, ancillary income and other cash receipts in QuickBooks.
• Prepare monthly reconciliations.
Accounts Payable
• Process accounts payable in a timely fashion
• Manage contracts and serve as main point of contact with outside vendors when appropriate.
Payroll
• Prepare and manage all payroll functions.
• Complete and maintain new hire employment and benefit paperwork for all new staff.
Other
• Other duties may be assigned on a project basis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, or finance and a minimum of two years of accounting experience is preferred.
Work experience in accounting with successful coursework in accounting may be considered in lieu of degree.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Able to work well in a team environment, as well as independently.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Fluent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and accounting software, preferably QuickBooks.
Able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
