Position Summary
The Career Connections Manager oversees and implements comprehensive career and professional development programming focused on advancing the career success and progression of Walsh University students. The Manager will be an integral addition to the newly formed Office of Alumni & Career Connections to strengthen alumni, student and employer connections to enhance students’ career preparedness. More specifically, the manager will work collaboratively with campus stakeholders to maintain a university-wide career culture that engages academic and other campus partners to ensure career dialogue is engrained early and often in a student’s collegiate career.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Articulating pathways, strategies, and skill sets required to navigate from the classroom to a career or further education as a result of a comprehensive understanding of the current job market and employment trends.
- Manages the operation, programming, and development of career education, events and services for students and alumni, providing guidance concerning career and vocational decisions.
- Serves as primary point of contact and champion for Handshake, LinkedIn and other technological resources showing its effective usage on campus and with employers.
- Collaborates cross enterprise to execute and track the First Destination Survey
- Collaborates with alumni career connections team, faculty, internship coordinators, coaches and other key constituents to create cross-functional programming and provide resources that prepare students for success after graduation, engages alumni for programmatic activities and builds a university-wide career culture.
- Manages and implements Alumni in Residence Program and activate alumni network to expand work of career on campus and in the classroom.
- Manages employer relationships to create personalized approach to industry, career and internship awareness and opportunities.
- Identifies and collaborates with industry leaders (I.e. professional organizations, other universities, peer network) and remain current on best practices and national trends related to career education, early talent recruitment and workforce needs.
- Responsibly stewards allocated budget
- Regularly evaluate programs and initiatives
- Supervises student workers.
- Limited travel when needed to special events with evening and weekend availability as needed.
- Other duties as assigned or required.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)
Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:
- Experience in student development, career development, or human resources required.
- Experience building relationships with stakeholders, including employers.
- Excellent communication, marketing, and interpersonal relations skills.
- Experience implementing and assessing program development.
- Knowledge of best practices in career development and employment trends.
- Experience with Handshake preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Able to work nights and weekends and to travel locally and nationally.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Work Experience
- Higher education experience preferred.
Skills And Abilities
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with PC applications such as Microsoft Office and Handshake
