This position is located in Wilmington, Delaware. The Diocese of Wilmington is seeking a Parish Support Accountant, who will be responsible for performing all financial functions necessary to account for, manage and control business operations for client parishes, the Catholic Press, and the Catholic Youth Organization.
The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
Essential Functions:
- Meet with each pastor at least weekly at the parish location.
Enter invoices into the accounting system, prepare checks for signature and payment.
- Prepare journal entries and any related payroll reports from the Paylocity Payroll System.
- Review and verify the accuracy and timeliness of all receipts and payments.
- Prepare all necessary general ledger journal entries.
- Prepare bank reconciliations for each account.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements (including monthly operating statements); handle any questions related to above statements from the parish.
- Monitor bank accounts to prevent overdrafts and to transfer excess funds to improve returns.
- Review and verify accuracy of all deposits.
- Prepare the Annual Budget.
- Prepare the Parish Report.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with a concentration in accounting, and three years of experience in accounting or auditing; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- An aptitude for mathematics with the ability to analyze, compare and interpret facts and figures quickly.
Intermediate knowledge of accounting procedures/systems/reports.
- Strong knowledge of computers and their applications such as basic accounting software and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities while meeting deadlines, in an extremely busy Finance Office
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate results both verbally and in writing.
- Detail oriented with ability to check/verify own work.
- Ability to travel to client parishes as needed.
- Ability to safeguard access to confidential, or sensitive, information and data.
- Willingness to consent to and ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen in accordance with federal/state/local laws.
