POSITION SUMMARY:
The San Damiano Spiritual Life Center located in White Post, VA is committed to the spiritual development of the Diocesan community through guided and directed prayer experiences, spirituality programs, evenings of theological reflection, and retreats - all offering guests the opportunity to be renewed and refreshed. The Center strives to build a dynamic community of faith, hope, and love wherein the mind and heart of Jesus are revealed more fully in the hearts, actions and worship of all who celebrate God's sanctifying love in their lives and in our world.
The general assistant provides support for food and housekeeping services as needed under the directions of the Center Director.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Food Service Duties:
• Perform food preparation and service tasks such as cooking and serving food and beverages when necessary; ensure that food is prepared and presented in an acceptable manner by complying with or monitoring food preparation methods, portion sizes, garnishing, presentation, and allergy awareness.
• Event set-up, break down, and cleanup, including, but not limited to, cleaning of dining room and kitchen as well as cleaning of floors and emptying of trash.
• Assist as needed with shopping for food and beverages, to include unloading and storing the supplies.
• Comply with State and local health regulations to ensure that safe and sanitary food-handling practices are observed in the food preparation and serving areas.
• Report complaints regarding food quality or service to supervisor
• Complete any other relevant tasks as assigned by the shift manager.
Housekeeping Duties:
• Deep clean rooms, common areas and public spaces on a rotating basis, as directed by the Housekeeping Supervisor.
• Wash towels, linens, and bedding as needed.
• Wash curtains and interior of windows as needed.
• Inspect rooms for cleanliness and signs of pests, damage, equipment problems, and misuse. Report any unusual findings or concerns to the Director and the Housekeeper.
• Complete any other relevant tasks as assigned by the Housekeeping Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, quantity food production and serving techniques, food safety/sanitation requirements and procedures; ability to cook, or willingness to learn, various types of cuisines and foods; thorough knowledge of various kitchen appliances and their proper usage.
• Knowledge of housekeeping skills and cleaning techniques.
• Ability to interact positively with guests, co-workers and supervisor.
• Food Safety Training required.
• Years and Types of Experience: 1-3 years of experience in the hospitality industry or equivalent preferred.
