Position Description:
The role has broad responsibility for all financial and accounting functionality, including: accounting oversight and internal controls, annual audits/990, relationships with financial and investment service providers, retirement account administration and oversight, internal and external financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, long-range planning, monitoring financial compliance for government contracts, investment analysis, reserve adequacy analysis, and other financial analysis. Reporting directly to the CEO, this position will interact closely with all members of the leadership team of the agency and will interact closely with the Diocesan Finance Department.
Position Responsibilities:
- Accounting & Financial Oversight. Oversees all accounting and financial functions, including internal controls, budget development and monitoring, revenue projections and asset management.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis. Oversees completion of external audit and 990 as well as internal and external financial reports, including grant related filings.
- Cash and Investment Management. Ensures sufficient cash is available to meet operating requirements. Monitors investment results for operating funds, cash reserves, endowment funds and assets from frozen pension plan, ensuring compliance with policies and optimization of returns. Monitors corporate credit card accounts and vendor credit applications to effectively support operating needs of the organization.
- Compliance and Risk Management. Ensure adherence to Diocesan and Organizational policies and procedures as well as GAAP, CFR 200 (Code of Federal Regulations)(Fed Funding Regulations) and other regulatory guidelines.
- Retirement Fund Administration. Oversee administration of current defined contribution plan (Profit Sharing) and frozen defined benefit plan ensuring compliance with regulations and plan objectives.
- Strategic Planning. Serve as a member of the President’s Senior Executive Team, providing high-level strategic guidance on resource allocation and fiscal planning.
- Supervision. Direct supervisor of Controller. Support of additional seven finance team members.
Other Duties:
- Prepare and present financial materials at Board and Finance Committee meetings.
- Diocese liaison for accounting and financial issues
- Bequest Administration. Review and certify bequest related documents.
- Contract Reviews/Signatory Authority
- Representative for Catholic Charities at External Events
Qualifications & Skills:
- Willingness to uphold Catholic Moral & Social Teaching in the workplace.
- Demonstrates outstanding planning, budgeting, and forecasting skills.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize large amounts of data to identify and present meaningful observations and recommendations.
- Ability to work effectively with the Board and related Committees as well as various leaders from the Catholic Diocese of Arlington
- Demonstrated experience working within complex organizations and ability to collaborate within a cross-functional team environment.
- Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of Excel and proficiency with Microsoft Word and other Office Suite applications.
- Ability to take initiative, and exercise sound judgment in problem-solving and decision making.
- Self-directed with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of GAAP for non-profit organizations as well as CFR 200 requirements.
- Experience with Accounting Software (Sage Intacct) preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration; Master’s degree preferred; current CPA preferred.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in accounting and finance, planning and forecasting required inclusive of demonstrated leadership and/or client relationship management.
- Faith-based nonprofit employment experience desired, including experience in the administration of government contracts.
