Job Summary
The Assistant Manager at The Petting Farm supports the overall operation of the farm, ensuring smooth daily functions and exceptional customer experiences. This role involves overseeing staff, managing volunteers, assisting with animal care, and helping with events, marketing, and administrative tasks.
Duties
Staff Management: Supervise farm staff, create and manage staff schedules, ensure adequate coverage, and foster a positive and productive work environment.
Staff Training & Development: Assist with onboarding, provide ongoing training, and offer performance feedback to improve job skills and overall operations.
Customer Service Management: Handle escalated customer issues or complaints, ensuring visitors have a positive and memorable experience.
Animal Care: Assist with the feeding, cleaning, and general well-being of farm animals, ensuring that all care protocols are followed.
Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations for both staff and visitors, including proper animal handling and emergency protocols.
Event Planning & Coordination: Help plan, organize, and execute public programs, private parties, and community outreach events.
Marketing & Social Media: Assist in developing and executing marketing strategies, manage social media accounts, and contribute to website content.
Financial & Inventory Management: Assist with budgeting, maintaining financial records, preparing reports, tracking expenses, and managing supply orders.
Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with external suppliers and service providers to ensure timely deliveries and services within budget.
Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers, ensuring they are adequately prepared for their duties and receive necessary guidance.
General Farm Chores: Support farm upkeep, including cleaning facilities, maintaining equipment, and assisting with minor repairs.
Scheduling & Shift Management: Adjust staff schedules as needed to ensure smooth operations during peak hours, weekends, and special events.
Experience
Proven experience in a leadership or management role, preferably in an agricultural, animal care, or related field.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Experience in marketing, social media management, and event planning is a plus.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Passion for animals and a commitment to their well-being.
Basic knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and inventory management.
Must have a clean driving record.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Must be able to climb a ladder to the hay and straw loft.
Must be able to get in and out of pens to close doors and gates.
Must be able to stand on feet for 4 hours.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Comfortable working around animals.
