Job Summary:
The Pastoral Associate for Religious Education and Youth Ministry at St. Peter Church is a dynamic and faith-filled leader responsible for fostering the spiritual growth of children, teens, and young adults within the parish community. This role includes coordinating and overseeing all aspects of religious education and youth ministry programs, promoting active faith development, and nurturing a deeper understanding of Catholic teachings and values. The Pastoral Associate will work closely with the Pastor, volunteers, and other parish staff to create a welcoming and engaging environment that supports lifelong discipleship and community involvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Religious Education:
Develop and implement a comprehensive religious education program for children (Pre-K through 8th grade) and their families, including preparation for Sacraments such as First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.
Recruit, train, and support volunteer Catechists, ensuring that they are equipped to teach effectively and in alignment with the Catholic Church's teachings.
Collaborate with parents, offering resources and guidance to support faith formation at home.
Coordinate and plan religious education classes, retreats, liturgical events, and faith formation workshops.
Ensure that all religious education programs follow Diocesan policies and guidelines, including compliance with safe environment protocols.
Youth Ministry:
Plan and lead youth group activities for middle school and high school students, encouraging active participation in the life of the parish and the larger Catholic Church.
Develop faith-based programs and events that engage youth spiritually, emotionally, and socially, including retreats, service projects, and social gatherings.
Foster relationships with youth and their families, providing spiritual guidance and pastoral care as needed.
Promote youth involvement in parish liturgies, ministries, and service opportunities.
Attend Diocesan and regional youth ministry events, serving as the parish representative and coordinator for larger gatherings like youth rallies and mission trips.
General Pastoral Duties:
Collaborate with the Pastor and parish staff to ensure that all programs align with the parish mission and Diocesan goals.
Assist in the planning and execution of parish-wide events, including liturgies, feast days, and community outreach initiatives.
Provide pastoral support and guidance to individuals and families in need, helping to create a nurturing and inclusive parish community.
Participate in regular staff meetings and contribute to the overall vision and direction of the parish.
Working Conditions:
This is a full-time position, requiring availability for evening and weekend events, such as religious education classes, youth group activities, and parish events.
Occasional travel for Diocesan meetings, conferences, and youth events.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Theology, Religious Education, or a related field. (Masters Degree preferred).
Certification in Catechetical Ministry or Youth Ministry (or willingness to obtain).
Active and practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.
At least 3-5 years of experience in religious education and/or youth ministry, with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
Strong knowledge of Catholic Theology, Scripture, and liturgical practices.
Strong leadership, communication, and pastoral care skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of volunteers, families, and parish staff.
Excellent communication, teaching, and pastoral care skills, with a passion for working with children, teens, and young adults.
Proficiency in technology and social media for program promotion and communication.
