Position Title: Liturgical Music Coordinator Reports To: Pastor Start Date: End of April 2025 Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to collaborate with clergy, ministry leaders, and musicians to plan and execute parish liturgies and music. The coordinator develops and directs musicians to provide leadership on weekend’s other special liturgies in a way that will lead parishioners to "full, conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the liturgy." Position Type: Exempt
General Requirements - Ability to communicate and work well with others in a way that represents the gospel and promotes the parish in a positive light. - Proficient in piano, organ, conducting, and singing. - Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church. - Possesses an understanding of the GIRM and the liturgical rubrics of the Roman Missal. - Ability to improvise on keyboard instruments and read music. - Working knowledge of basic sound system functions. - Ability to collaborate with others and set aside personal preference, when needed, for the benefit of the larger community.
Responsibilities and Tasks - Meetings with the Pastor, other clergy, and any ministry leaders as necessary to plan and prepare for various liturgical celebrations. - Selects and prepares music for various liturgical celebrations. - Works to promote the development of various choirs and ensembles along with Cantors for weekend liturgies. - Oversees the purchase and distribution of congregational music materials and hymnals. - Participates in and directs the liturgical music for weekend Masses and other celebrations, including Holy Days of Obligation, along with Funerals, and Weddings (for additional compensation). - Oversees compliance with copyright laws and licensing procedures. - Maintains choir library and music resources as needed. - Maintains parish musical instruments and related equipment and sees to their tuning along with proper care and service. - Oversees use of parish sound equipment. - Meets with brides and grooms regarding wedding music - Coordinates and oversees use of parish musical equipment and resources by non-parish musicians for an additional fee. - Oversees the training and scheduling of Cantors and other musicians. - Maintains involvement with diocesan and national networks/professional peer groups as needed. - Creates, prepares, and monitors the annual budget for music ministry. Miscellaneous - Must be Virtus trained (or undergo training) and pass a background check through Selection.com
