1. MISSION OF THE A CAPPELLA CHOIR
To enhance the music of the parish by providing an opportunity for parishioners to attend Masses at which music is sung that is drawn from the a cappella choral tradition of the Church.
2. POSITION OVERVIEW
A member of the A Cappella choir sings for Masses at St. Anthony Church in Oxnard. The work is to participate in a small ensemble of singers whose aim is to give a high level of musical excellence in the choral tradition of the Church here at our parish. Music will be drawn from plainchant, the a cappella sacred music of the Renaissance, as well as some more modern choral pieces and some hymns. Members of the choir report directly to the Music Director of St. Anthony Parish, as well as to the Pastor of the parish. This is a part time position, singing at 1 Sunday Mass every week (currently the 9am Sunday Mass) and attending the needed rehearsals, which will be at least 2 times per month. We are seeking individuals for this choir who are not only interested in performance, but in singing in such a way that puts the focus on worship of God and helps people in their prayer and participation at Mass.

3. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform the job successfully, this individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - Ability to sing and carry an independent musical line as a soloist or in ensemble.
- Ability to sing a cappella, without the support of musical accompaniment.
- Ability to read and sing music to an appropriate level that does not inhibit the rehearsals and is sufficient to meet the demands of the music that is selected.
- Ability to blend with the other singers to create the desired overall sound for each piece.
- Compliance: LA Archdiocese & FBI background checks and completion of Virtus: Protecting God’s Children Program.
- Works under the direction of the parish Director of Music.
- Expected to attend rehearsals and assigned Masses to sing.
- Expected to comport himself/herself in a professional and respectful manner as appropriate to the church/worship environment.
- Work Environment: Church and rehearsal space in music room or other available room on St. Anthony campus. Physical strength demand requires light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to reach above shoulder level, to stoop, bend, grasp, pull, push and twist to retrieve equipment or materials. Must be able to handle exposure to noise levels and temperatures consistent with a large church building environment.
4. Pay Rate: $50 per hour, approximately 3 hrs per week
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
