THE POSITION:
This position is responsible for overseeing the Funeral Director Team as well as the Decedent Care Team and requires prior experience in the funeral industry.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Oversee scheduling of at-need funeral and committal services,
- Allocate staff and resources to meet caseload,
- Facilitate daily meetings with both the Funeral Director Team and the Decedent Care Team,
- Observe family arrangements, vigil/visitation, funeral/memorial and committal services and provide coaching when needed,
- Oversee the day-to-day operations and resources of the Prep Room and Crematory,
- Oversee entire Funeral Team including but not limited to; day-to-day operations, daily tasks, set performance expectations, performance reviews, and team achievements,
- Conduct meetings with management to discuss operational issues and solutions,
- Visit all of our funeral home locations and oversee their funeral operations,
- Manage Prep Room/Crematory compliance with federal and state laws/regulations,
- Share the journey and serve families with care as guided by our Catholic faith,
- Participate in the recruiting, selecting, hiring, and onboarding of new team members,
- Ensure paperwork is complete and signed by proper personnel including authorization to embalm, authorization to cremate and any special instructions,
- Handle hazardous materials, chemicals and spills in accordance with the Safety Data Sheets (SDS),
- Perform administrative and day-to-day operational duties as required, including but not limited to, verifying information, completing forms, data entry, inventory, checking deliveries, and maintaining logs,
- Ability to become proficient in the funeral home technology,
- Maintain Case Management board for scheduled embalming / cremation / preparation work,
- Oversee a regular schedule of Prep Room/Crematory cleaning and maintenance including equipment repair, instruments, and certification logs; as well as maintain the operational readiness of the Prep Room and equipment, and
- Oversee exhaust stack emissions to ensure compliance with regulatory emission standards.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent,
- Degree in Mortuary Science (or related program) from an accredited school or university preferred,
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience, and
- 3-5 years in supervising or managing others.
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have a positive and supportive attitude toward the Catholic Church, her teachings and her work,
- Working knowledge of funeral services, ceremonies and case management,
- Knowledge of embalming/cremation process, equipment and procedures,
- Knowledge of mortuary laws and legal requirements and compliance with federal and state laws,
- Ability to perform ones duties without direct supervision,
- Proficient in the use of computers, software and technology,
- Refrain from public promotion or approval of any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with the Catholic doctrine or morals,
- Must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills,
- Possess a high level of compassion and integrity,
- Must be detail oriented and preform duties in a timely and accurate manner, and
- Possess a professional attitude and ability to be a team player.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.,
- Ability to push and pull up to 300lbs. with a wheeled cart,
- Ability to stand for long periods on a hard surface,
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time,
- Use the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and prepare for embalming/cremation.
