Position Description
Job Title: Extended Care Staff
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Job Status: Part Time; 2:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m.
Reporting Functions: Reports to Extended Care Coordinator and school Principal
Job Function: Performs paraprofessional work planning and supervising the activities of children after school. Assist the Extended Care Coordinator in planning, implementing, and supervising activities set for the children. Responsible for the safety and well-being of all children in the extended care program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greets each child in a warm and friendly manner.
- Interact with the children in the extended care program and encourage play amongst each other and the staff.
- Provide for the safety, welfare, and care of all the children within the program at all times; provide a safe and clean environment.
- Assist in planning, preparing, and implementing daily activities (indoor/outdoor).
- Works with other staff members to form a positive, respectful, and supportive atmosphere.
- Maintains adherence to all school policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
- Assist the coordinator by reporting attendance, health, and financial records for each student in the program; ensure that all records are kept up to date including medical and contact information.
- Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve, health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Communicate all parental concerns and questions about a child to the extended care coordinator; respect the confidentiality of all family information and refrain from discussing their personal information outside of the program.
- Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, and honoring schedules.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the school administration and Extended Care Coordinator.

Educational Qualifications:
- High school diploma or higher.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in a daycare or classroom setting.
Other Requirements:
- An understanding of child development and the skills necessary to relate to the students being taught.
- The ability to handle student situations with fairness and patience.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check required.

Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear; frequent use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue; possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift and/or move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment; may occasionally climb stairs or ladders. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word: hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Working Conditions: After-school care setting with working hours of 2:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m.., Monday through Friday.
