The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. Under the leadership of the Most Reverend Edward G. Malesic, Bishop of Cleveland, it is the twenty-third largest Diocese in the United States. The Diocese encompasses the counties of Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Wayne, and Ashland. There are more than 692,000 Catholics in the Diocese, and Catholic Charities- Diocese of Cleveland is one of the largest diocesan systems of social services in the world. There are 185 parishes, 110 Catholic schools, 1 pastoral center, and 1 mission office within the Diocese. The cathedral is the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, located in downtown Cleveland.
The Office of Catholic Education provides expertise, experience, and energy to lead and assist those who carry out the education ministries of the Diocese of Cleveland. In steadfast support of our over 40,000 students and their families, the Office works to ensure that each school has the capacity to deliver strong, positive, irresistibly Catholic education for continued growth in academic excellence and faith formation.
The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School (VASJ) are pleased to accept applications for the position of State Scholarship Coordinator. Founded in 1990 when Villa Angela Academy merged with St. Joseph High School, Villa Angela– St. Joseph High School is a diocesan-sponsored, co-educational, comprehensive, college preparatory high school rooted in the Ursuline and Marianist traditions. VASJ is committed to the spiritual, academic, and personal growth of each student. With a population of about 500 students in grades nine through twelve, Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School provides young men and women with a nurturing and supportive educational environment in which to grow academically, spiritually, socially, and morally.
The President serves as the chief operating officer of the school, supported by the Director of Advancement, Director of Finance, Director of Marketing, Director of Buildings & Grounds, and additional staff members responsible for marketing, communications, building maintenance, and advancement. The Principal is the school's chief academic officer, supported by a Dean of Academics, Dean of Students, and other staff, including guidance, athletics, and all faculty.
Primary Function:
Provide a safe learning environment for our school including, but not limited to, providing valuable resources to school staff members, fostering positive relationships with youth, developing strategies to resolve problems affecting youth, and protecting all students so that they can reach their full potential.
Responsibilities
- To enforce criminal law and protect the students, staff, and public at large against criminal activity.
- Foster mutually respectful relationships with students and staff to support a positive school climate.
- Provide information concerning questions about law enforcement topics to students and staff.
- Provide classroom instruction on a variety of topics including, but not limited to, safety, public relations, occupational training, leadership, and life skills.
- Coordinate investigative procedures between police and school administrators.
- Handle initial police reports of violent crimes committed on campus.
- Take enforcement action on criminal matters on school property or related to school activities and consult with school administrators on such matters.
- Attend school special events as needed.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity or knowledge of the Catholic Church, its teachings and traditions. Ability to support the teachings, traditions, and evangelization charge of the Catholic Church.
- Successful BCI and FBI background checks and VIRTUS certified or willing to be certified.
- College Degree, or equivalent work experience, required
- 5+ years’ experience in a related field, preferred
- Prior experience in the Security industry is preferred
- EMT basic preferred
- Paramedic experience preferred
- Ability to work independently and perform all job duties with minimal supervision
- Willing to work a wide range of hours
