Summary of Duties
The Saint Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii Volunteer Program places volunteer community members throughout the organization to provide support in critical areas within our teams. Under the direction of the Manager of Volunteer Programs, the Coordinator of Volunteer Programs oversees the hospice volunteers' schedules, executes the various functions and activities of the Volunteer Program Department. The Coordinator of Volunteer Programs plays a crucial role in driving successful volunteer placements by providing training, support, and direction for the varying volunteer roles to ensure that desired services and needs are met. The Coordinator of Volunteer Programs is also active in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and placement of volunteers. This role partners with managers and team members throughout the organization to understand volunteer needs and drive successful placements.
Educational Requirements
- High school, plus additional courses or specialized training at business or community college, or other formal training facility or program.
- Certificate of Volunteer Management preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 6 months experience in a business office setting. Working with non-profit, volunteer program or health care system is preferred.
- Experience working with programs dealing with hospice or terminal illness is desirable.

- Training, mentoring and/or supervisory skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Requires empathy, compassion and cultural and generational sensitivity.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong public speaking and facilitation ability.
- Ability to safely operate an automobile - must have personal automobile available for business use, valid/current driver’s license and good driving record as evidenced by current traffic abstract
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations on short notice with ease
- Ability to multi-task effectively and maintain composure under time constraints.
- Good computer skills with ability to learn various MS Office Programs
Note: Requires ability to be flexible with schedule. While position is generally Mon-Fri., volunteer training, meetings and other events may occur outside of the normal work hours.
