Cook | St. Joseph's Living Center
Saint Joseph Living Center is proud to be a non-profit, 120-bed Skilled Nursing Facility located in Windham, CT. We offer short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, and end-of-life care. We are a Catholic faith-based community sponsored by the Diocese of Norwich, but we welcome residents and staff of all faiths. The Center features both indoor and outdoor amenities, including a Chapel with daily mass and a beautiful, enclosed courtyard.
We are currently seeking a Cook to join our team!
The Cook will assist in all dietary functions as directed/instructed and in accordance with the philosophies, objectives and established policies and procedures of the facility and the Dietary Department.
Hours: Full-time: 5:30am-1:30pm, 7am-3pm, 11am-7pm; schedule includes every other weekend
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
- Must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, Residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as be willing to handle Residents based on whatever cognitive level they are currently functioning
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, the appearance of work areas and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace
- Experience working in a kitchen helpful
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend and squat for prolonged periods
- Ability to push, pull objects and lift/carry up to 20 pounds unassisted on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds or more with assistance on occasion
- Review menus prior to preparing food
- Work with the dietitian and implement recommended changes
- Develop and maintain good working rapport with the Dietary Aides and members of the team
- Attend in-service programs as directed
- Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus and therapeutic diet requirements
- Prepare alternative food selections
- Prepare food in accordance with sanitary regulations
- Ensure that safety regulations and precautions are followed at all times
- Assists in maintaining the food storage area in a clean and properly arranged manner
- Ensures that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available
