Senior Shift Supervisor/DSP
Position Overview
Under the supervision of the senior residence manager and the clinical team, the Senior Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the delivery of care for each person assigned who lives in a Catholic Guardian Services (CGS) residence. Interactions and supports are to be carried out in a manner that creates a homelike atmosphere and fosters independence, learning, dignity and respect. The Senior Shift Supervisor assists the senior residence manager to train DSPs, and ensure staff scheduling and responsibilities for all DSPs on shift are carried out in accordance with OPWDD and agency requirements and as prescribed in each person’s individualized plan.
Qualifications
● High School Diploma or GED
● Minimum of 5 years DSP experience is preferred
● Knowledge and understanding of OPWDD regulations for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
● Maintains status as an agency authorized driver with a valid New York State Driver’s License that is maintained in good standing and willingness to transport individuals in agency vehicles.
● Complete all required trainings within 90 days of hire and maintain all required certifications (including, but not limited to, AMAP, First Aid and CPR, SCIP-R, eMar).
● Must complete driving assessment and driver safety class within 45 days of hire.
● Must be able to operate a 12-passenger van.
● Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, overnights and weekends.
Essential Job Functions
● Acts at liaison to management during shift. Immediately notifies management of emergent issues noted on shift and activates the RN on-call protocol for medical emergencies.
● Ensures staff schedules and assignments for DSPs on shift meet minimum staffing ratio as per the home’s staffing plan and staff assignments meet to the needs of the individuals in the home.
● Implements person-centered supports and services in a respectful and positive manner to assist with the achievement of personal outcomes and life goals under the direction of the senior residence manager.
● Orients, trains and coaches new DSP staff and temps on shift as per agency protocols.
● Provides ongoing training, support, and modeling to staff on active treatment, skill development, adaptive behavior, activities of daily living, self-help, social and other skills which foster informed/supported decision making, independence, self-direction, dignity and respect.
● Serves as a model and ensures that DSPs communicate at all times in a respectful manner with all people including the people served, families, advocates, agency staff and the broader community.
● Ensures each person is provided maximum opportunities to be fully engaged in their community establish and maintain a network of community-based relationships and valued social activities.
● Demonstrates, observes and monitors the delivery of supports by DSPs to ensure that they are in accordance with the direct support professional code of ethics, DSP core competencies and agency guidelines.
● Fully supports the health, safety and well-being of each person, in accordance with his/her plans of care.
● Completes daily physical plant and vehicle inspections and notifies senior residence manager on needs for the facility, vehicle(s), repairs, equipment and supplies.
● Carries out medical, behavioral and nursing protocols and procedures in accordance with OPWDD regulations and CGS requirements.
● Distributes, collects and secures petty cash house and personal allowance funds by the end of the shift, including reconciling cash outlays with the collection of signed vouchers and receipts.
● Ensures that AMAP guidelines and agency protocols for medication administration, storage, ordering, inventory and disposal are followed by AMAP staff on shift.
● Under the direction of the senior residence manager, provides or arranges for transportation of individuals to and from medical/dental appointments, services and activities
● Practices universal precautions and safe patient handling in carrying out all responsibilities.
● Fully participates in all meetings and trainings as required
● Ensures that housekeeping, cooking, laundry and light maintenance duties are carried out on the shift.
● In the absence of the residence manager, ensures that all measures for health, safety and well-being are maintained at the highest level in the maintenance of a clean, safe, personalized, and supportive homelike atmosphere.
● Documents charts, logs, memos, notes, res hab data, etc., in an accurate and timely manner electronically or on paper, as required.
● Reviews documentation at end of shift of monitoring protocols, service delivery and log entries made by DSP staff to ensure completion.
● Ensures actions and services are conducted in a manner that upholds the right to privacy, supports informed decision-making and prevents abuse and neglect.
● Under the direction of management, oversees inventory of in-home supplies, food purchases, meal planning, preparation and implementation in accordance with each person’s medical orders, dietary needs and food consistency on the shift worked.
● Maintains AMAP certification and passes medications as needed
● Prevents, recognizes and immediately reports all incidents, including allegations of abuse and neglect, serious reportable incidents and notable occurrences in accordance with agency policy and OPWDD and Justice Center rules and regulations.
● Activates the agency emergency notification protocol. Immediately summons police, fire, ambulance or other emergency responders when needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
