POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Custodian, Temporary, 2nd Shift
Part-Time, non-exempt
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. Under the leadership of the Most Reverend Edward G. The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and Elyria Catholic High School are pleased to accept applications for the position of Custodian. Elyria Catholic High School (ECHS) is a Diocesan–owned, comprehensive, coeducational, Catholic high school committed to academic excellence and the development of student gifts. Enrollment is 480 students in grades 9 through 12.
Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Custodian keeps the building and grounds clean and neat, in a safe manner using cleaning materials to maintain equipment and other supplies while dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and cleaning restrooms at Elyria Catholic High School campus.
Responsibilities:
- Keeps buildings and property in clean and orderly condition.
- Performs heavy cleaning duties.
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuum floors.
- Gathers and empties trash.
- Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
- Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
- Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers.
- Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture.
- Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
- Notifies manager regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.
- Replenish supplies as needed.
- Setup and clean up of events (sporting, performing arts, faculty staff meetings, etc.)
- Summer duties may include, but are not limited to painting, floor resurfacing, and grounds work.
- Attend workshops, in-services and employee meetings as required
- Perform other duties as necessary to accomplish objectives.
- May be asked to perform cleanup duties after sporting events. This could entail weekend work.
- This is a temporary position.
Requirements:
- Ability to uphold the mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Cleveland in performing all responsibilities of this role.
- Combination of education and experience normally represented by a high school diploma with 0-3 years of experience.
- Ability to work evenings (up to 10PM or later)
- Ability to understand verbal instructions.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects up to and including 50 pounds
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
- Ability to slightly modify schedule (earlier or later) to accommodate occasions such as sporting events.
- Must be able to complete/pass BCI and FBI background checks.
- VIRTUS certified or willing to be certified.
