Position Summary:
The Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada (CCSN) Emergency Shelter Coordinator works in coordination with Case Management staff to address the broad array of client needs. The coordinator serves as the contact for partner agency case managers and for clients when case managers are not available. The Coordinator acts primarily as a case coordinator rather than a provider of direct services, however, may perform duties that include outreach, prevention and harm reduction, crisis intervention, health education, substance abuse and mental health referrals, and benefits counseling. The Emergency Shelter Coordinator reaches out to governmental, faith-based, nonprofit service providers and local businesses to continue building upon and towards developing a cohesive, collaborative and coordinated system of care to create a seamless, client-centered system of case management, providing the capacity to extend the reach of resources available to Southern Nevada’s homeless population.
Responsibilities:
- Working with coordinated case managers, promotes a comprehensive knowledge of the scope, purpose/role, and eligibility requirements of available services provided by each case manager in a collaborative or coordinated arrangement.
- Coordinate Emergency Shelter intake, enrollment, and data collection at Emergency Shelter intake/reception center.
- Makes entries to client files and entries in the program database on a daily basis.
- Assists clients by managing use of services, and expediting service delivery through linkage activities.
- Facilitates and coordinates supportive activities with case management, including employment assistance programs, job readiness training, and financial education.
- Establishes and maintains resources.
- Reviews programs and eligibility requirements, outreach to current and potential partner agencies, monitoring social action, data collection and program evaluation.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for homeless men and staff.
- Maintain awareness of situations that may result in safety, hazards, or property damage, and notify the supervisor on duty.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be computer literate and possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to understand directives and carry them out to completion and without hesitation.
- Detail-oriented with a propensity toward organizational skills.
- Must have a strong sense of focus and must be task oriented and non-judgmental with a clear sense of personal boundaries.
- Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse groups. Ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
- Ability to meet face-to-face with homeless individuals of diverse backgrounds and disabilities, including physical, mental, substance abuse, able to develop rapport, provide information, and refer with sensitivity to cultural issues.
- Possess ability to understand various CCSN operations and procedures.
- Work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts.
- Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Must have a respect for confidentiality involving both clients and employees.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One-year experience performing Customer Service or Social Service work is desirable or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Windows platform required.
- Prior experience with the homeless population is a plus.
- Bi-lingual is a plus.
- CPR and First Aid Certification is a plus
- Have the ability to pass a criminal, drug-screening, and employment background check
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to communicate clearly with clients and co-workers.
- Ability to remain alert and effective during the entire shift.
- Ability to continuously stand and to walk frequently throughout the shelter (and potentially throughout campus)
- Ability to regularly lift 20 pounds.
- Ability to operate and use office equipment and communicate by radio.
- The employee will work in an office and public, service-delivery environment.
- May experience exposure to strong odors such as soiled clothes and poor hygiene.
This position pays $15.00 per hour, plus $.50 shift differential.
