General Introduction
The Bishop of Sioux Falls is the visible head and source of unity in the particular Church entrusted to his pastoral care (CCC 1594). In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring while functioning in his role as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Bishop trusts chosen collaborators (clerics, religious and lay people) to share in the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Each employee helps to extend the ministry of the local Pastor in particular ways as outlined in this position description.
The Diocese of Sioux Falls, South Dakota is made up of over twenty different pastorates -parishes joined together under one pastor. Located in southeast, SD, Holy Angels Pastorate is made up of seven parishes, one Catholic school and the Newman Center for the University of South Dakota. Stretched along 16 miles of South Dakota's eastern border with Nebraska and Iowa, the parishes of St. Joseph, St. Peter and St. Teresa of Calcutta are made up of strong Catholic families with deep roots. Position Summary
The DRE directs the entire religious education program, K through 12, for the three southern parishes in the pastorate. The DRE ensures that the parishes have the best possible religious education program for their students. The DRE will be responsible for the recruitment, coordination and formation of all mentors, catechists and other volunteers in the religious education program. The DRE will provide and equip the mentors and catechists with everything they need to best evangelize, catechize and witness to the youth to whom they minister. Work hours vary, with some evenings and weekends as needed.
Qualifications
Essential:
1. Willingness and ability to effectively make known the Catholic Church's teachings through the varied ministry activities expected of this position.
2. Willingness and ability to act as a personal witness to the Catholic Faith by living both one's professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, as embodied in the various documents of the Roman Catholic Church, including, without limitation, the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church.
3. Passionate about their Catholic Faith.
4. Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
5. A generous and positive attitude.
6. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
Strongly Preferred:
• Very good knowledge of the doctrines of the Catholic Faith or willingness to learn.
• Morale building and people skills.
• Public speaking skills.
Education
Essential:
• A college degree.
Strongly Preferred:
• A bachelor's degree in theology or closely related field.
Experience
Essential:
• Professional or volunteer experience in Catholic ministry at a parish.
Strongly Preferred:
1. 2-4 years in professional administration (office, educational or not-for-profit preferred).
2. Team building and volunteer management.
3. Experience in religious education.
4. Experience working with children.
