POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: Director of Family Life Ministries
Department: Office of Family Life Ministry
Reports To: Secretary for Parish Mission & Vitality
Classification: Exempt
General Description
To develop and implement activities and programs designed to build up the faith life of families and adults in the parish for the purpose of enriching the faith life of the whole parish. To support and promote the Catholic understanding of marriage and family life so that the family may assume its identity and mission in society and in the Church. To assess needs and develop programs; to direct to counselling and referral services; to act as a parish resource in support of families and adults. To strengthen the family, the domestic Church, in faith as well as to meet the challenges of today’s hectic and demanding world.
Specific Duties/Responsibilities
The following specific responsibilities are representative of the duties required in this position. They may be unilaterally but reasonably changed based on the working environment and departmental needs.
General
- Lead, support and supervise the staff members who coordinate and develop the pastoral programs of the Office of Family Life.
- Prepare and oversee annual departmental budget.
- Assure that all programing and work of the Office ‘thinks with the Church’.
- Collaborate and communicate with other Archdiocesan Ministries in support of family, marriage, chastity and healing the wounds of the culture.
Marriage Preparation
- Liaison to existing marriage preparation teams and Family Life Ministries.
- Provide formation and training to marriage preparation teams; God’s Plan for a Joy Filled Marriage and Pre-Cana.
- Develop new marriage preparation teams as necessary and possible.
- Ongoing development and renewal of marriage preparation programs.
- Provide marriage preparation materials upon request.
Marriage Enrichment
- Develop and facilitate marriage enrichment programs such as World Marriage Day, World Wide Marriage Encounter, Anniversary Masses and others as developed and initiated by the Director.
- Develop enrichment programs on the parish and Archdiocesan level pertinent to today’s changing world.
Ministries of Healing
- Facilitate parish training regarding programing and resources for ministry to Divorced and Separated, Bereavement, Mental Health Ministry
- Develop and train parish-based support groups for bereavement, divorced and separated.
- Provide resources for support programs for single parents
- Provide resources for support programs for:
- Domestic Violence
- Sexual Abuse
- Drug and alcohol abuse/addiction
Formation
- Ongoing training for lay and clerical as needed.
In addition
- Other duties as assigned for all above (but not limited to) categories of responsibilities.
Qualifications/Skills
- Practicing Catholic
- Verbal and written proficiency in English and desired in Spanish
- Internet and computer skills, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Desktop Publishing and use of social media
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, possess organization skills and collaborative skills
- Availability for evening and weekend work as necessary
- The ability to research new and vital programs to serve the needs of families in all areas of stability, growth & development, enrichment, etc.
- The ability to creatively develop and institute new and vibrant programs pertaining to all areas of family life
- Demonstrate marketing skills in promoting any or all programs
Education and/or Experience (Preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree
- Some comprehensive theological, liturgical, and pastoral training
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge in the field of ministry
