Overview: McGill-Toolen Catholic High School is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as its next Principal. The ideal candidate will possess a commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education, a passion for student success, and strong leadership skills.
With a student body of 700, McGill-Toolen Catholic is a premier institution committed to academic excellence in faith-based education. Founded in 1897 under the direction of Bishop John Allen with the support of brothers Arthur and Felix McGill, McGill Institute served as a free Catholic school for boys. In 1973, McGill Institute merged with Bishop Toolen High School, an all-girls Catholic high school founded by Bishop Thomas J. Toolen in 1928. Today, McGill-Toolen Catholic is the only Catholic high school serving Mobile, Alabama.
Mission: McGill-Toolen Catholic High School provides a college preparatory secondary education that enables individuals to grow in faith, search for knowledge and truth in mind, body, and spirit, and build the kingdom of God on earth. By active involvement in the learning process that is grounded in the Catholic faith, students are prepared for lives of Christian leadership and service.
Under the direction of the School President and Superintendent of Catholic Schools, the Principal is responsible for supporting the Archdiocese of Mobile as it accepts the challenge to participate in Jesus' teaching mission. This mission offers opportunities for active faith life, provides quality educational programs, promotes the growth and development of the whole person, and accepts the diversity of all people while sharing the learning experience with parents as active partners.
Qualifications and Qualities: Candidates must
• Be practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church
• Have obtained an appropriate Master's degree
• Have teaching experience; Catholic school and administrative experience preferred
• Be able to successfully complete the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Training and a background check
• Have knowledge of child development learning and behavior
• Have knowledge of high school curricula, instructional methods and strategies, and differentiated instruction.
• Have good communication skills appropriate for faculty/staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
• Recognize and support the unique Catholic mission of the Archdiocese of Mobile by speaking, acting, and leading in a manner consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church
• Foster intellectual and spiritual development of staff and students by teaching and acting in accordance with the mission, philosophy, objectives, and policies of this Catholic school.
• Monitor academic plans that follow the prescribed curriculum and include appropriate activities to ensure that academic progress is occurring.
• Evaluate student and program growth by following the Department of Catholic Education's student assessment programs and practices.
• Report regularly to the President and School Advisory Council regarding the progress of the school.
• Direct student recruitment efforts, participate in long-range planning and support development/marketing plans.
• Assist the school President in preparing the annual budget.
