Description
Church of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Kearney, a small to medium sized parish about 30 minutes north of Kansas City, is seeking to hire a part-time Director of Liturgy and Music. The Director of Liturgy and Music will have a thorough understanding of Roman Catholic liturgy and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of liturgy including recruiting and scheduling liturgical ministers. This person also serves the parish as principal musician, organist/pianist, and choir director. Working with many volunteers, the Director of Liturgy and Music is responsible for providing quality liturgical celebrations that enhance the most active participation of the multi-generational faithful of our parish.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Function as principal keyboardist and choir director.
· Assure all elements of liturgy are planned, available, and executed for all weekend and weekday Masses, Holy Days, weddings, funerals, first reconciliation, baptisms, etc.
· Provide music and musicians for all weekend Masses, Holy Days, and other major celebrations and sacraments.
· Direct seasonal adult choir; coordinate other choral groups and ensembles, e.g. folk instruments and chimes; Direct PSR Christmas program.
· Train and expand available volunteer cantors and musicians.
· Maintain piano and organ in good order.
· Consult on music and liturgy with parishioners and families preparing for sacramental liturgies, e.g. Weddings, Funerals, etc.
· Evaluate overall parish liturgical needs. Coordinate and train liturgical volunteers and schedule presiders, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, ushers and sacristans.
· Coordinate and train Eucharistic ministers for the homebound.
· Work with sacristan, pastor and other volunteers on the preparation of all parish liturgies.
· Work with volunteers as needed to create prayers of the faithful and a prayerful Mass environment, including providing leadership to Art & Environment volunteers and purchasing of needed supplies.
· Work with volunteers on the preparation of prayer services and devotions.
· Manage the Sound System.
· Prepare and manage the budgets for liturgy and music in collaboration with the Business manager.
Qualifications:
· Respect and uphold Catholic Church teaching.
· Ideally practicing Catholic with ethical standards, personal integrity, and conduct consistent with the morals and teachings of the Catholic Church.
· Degree in music and/or liturgy; or equivalent experience.
· Knowledge of Church documents that govern and direct liturgy and sacred music.
· Ability and desire to lead and sustain a program of quality congregational singing.
· Ability to work effectively with all levels and ages of employees and volunteers.
· Able to honor and maintain confidentiality.
· Strong computer skills.
