About the Organization: The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia are a community of Catholic women religious who commit their lives to God as followers of Saints Francis and Clare. We strive to live in loving relationship and service with all people and creation. We are dedicated to bringing hope and joy to those in need by promoting justice and peace with emphasis on human rights and environmental concerns in our daily encounters. We operate Assisi House, where sisters live in their retirement years, many receiving medical support through our nursing staff.
Job Summary: The Activities Assistant works collaboratively with other departments at Assisi House to assist the Activities Coordinator with planning, organizing, and implementing various activities and programs in the department to promote the spiritual, social, intellectual, and physical well-being of the sisters who reside at Assisi House.
Responsibilities include:
- Exemplifying our mission and values by interacting with the sisters, staff, and volunteers in a caring and professional manner.
- Assisting with planning daily and seasonal activities, including outings.
- Assisting with conducting activities and programs for the sisters, including leading the daily exercise class (Monday through Friday).
- Assisting with preparation of the Gathering Room for activities and events, including table and chair setup, and decorating for special functions and holidays.
- Preparing, copying, and distributing daily and weekly flyers, and creating a monthly newsletter/bulletin to highlight special events.
- Maintaining a clean and orderly work area including closet and basement storage areas.
- Driving the bus to transport sisters for outings and directing volunteers, including the proper use of the wheelchair lift.
- Assisting with feeding in the memory care unit, as needed.
Qualifications include:
- Support for the mission and values of the Sisters of St. Francis, including treating others with dignity and respect and a commitment to excellence and stewardship.
- Outstanding planning and organizational skills, creativity, and proficiency with executing plans.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Positive attitude with the ability to work patiently and calmly with individuals who may have physical restrictions or ailments, and who may be under emotional distress.
- Basic computer proficiency for effective business use.
- Possession of a current driver’s licence with a good driving record.
- Pluses include: prior activities experience, work within a geriatric care setting, and experience with a dementia population is a plus (one wing is for memory care).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
