Duties and Responsibilities
St. George Parish in George West is seeking a part-time custodian to assist with parish upkeep. The number of hours per week will be 16-20 hours, or less, depending on the needs of the parish. .
This position requires the Custodian to work on Sundays from 7:00 am to 12:30 p.m. to assist at the Masses with opening the parish, cleanup, and lockup. Remaining hours will be used to clean the church, chapel, parish hall, classrooms, office, and rectory and are flexible depending on funerals and other events.
Part-time employees are required to punch in/out and should not work more than 30 hours per week. Hours in addition to the 16-20 hours require prior approval from the Pastor.

Currently, daily/weekly duties include cleaning/maintenance of church campus buildings encompassing but not limited to:

Cleaning of all church areas including church, chapel, sacristy, and restrooms;

Cleaning of the parish hall, kitchen, and restrooms;

Cleaning of the conference room, FF office, classrooms, and restrooms;

Cleaning of parish office including offices, foyer, and restroom;

Cleaning of rectory including all living areas, kitchen, and restrooms.

Cleaning includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping down of all surfaces, interior mirrors and windows, and removal of trash, etc.; and,

Monitoring of A/C, lights, doors, and anything which may pose a safety hazard to parishioners, students, or guests.
AVAILABILITY: Employee must be available when needed. Hours can be coordinated during the work week, evenings, or weekends depending on parish needs and the weather.
COMMUNICATION: For the success of our parish, communication is very important.

Employee will communicate clearly about which daily, weekly tasks have been completed or need assistance with;

Employee will check in with parish office routinely in case additional tasks need completing; and

Employee will bring to the attention of the Pastor/Office Manager any repair/ task which may be unsafe, to himself and/or the parishioners/students, and will need a professional for completion.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Texas driver's license
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift objects and handle hazardous materials
- May be exposed to warm/cold temperatures, unpleasant substances and odors
- Must be able to life 15 pounds or more
Additional Requirements:
- Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
- Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
- Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures
