General Position Summary
The Director of Religious Education (DRE) , working under the direction of the Pastor , is responsible for the leadership, design, and implementation of the Religious Education program for children , middle school youth , and high school youth, and if needed, adult RCIA and youth RCIC . The DRE is also the primary resource for all volunteers teaching Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation classes.
Primary Responsibilities
- The Director of Religious Education is responsible for the planning and implementation of an approved Diocesan Religious Education program and Sacramental Preparation program s for Baptism, First Holy Communion, and First Reconciliation.
- Recruit, s upport, inform and guide all parish Formation volunteers and catechists in the areas of catechesis, doctrin e , litur gy .
- E ncourag e catechist participation in St. Frances De Sales Catechist Formation Program, St. Junipero Serra Institute, and other approved Diocesan Catechist Formation Programs .
- Participate in Diocesan programs regarding Catechesis .
- Oversee formation budgets in collaboration with the Bookkeeper/ Business Manager.
- Organize VBS and other additional activities for children & youth .
- Record enrollment and attendance for formation.
- Respond and/or send messages and notifications to parents as needed.
- Attend parish staff meetings .
- Responsible for other projects and tasks as assigned.

- Supervised by the Pastor
- Supervises Faith Formation Volunteers
Working Conditions And/or Physical Requirements
- Able to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods that require repetitive hand and wrist movements.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis.
- O ccasional overnight stays for approved youth retreats and events .
- Frequent walking, standing, and sitting .
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance .
Education And Experience
- Active, practicing member of the Catholic Church in good standing .
- B achelor’s degree in Theology /Catechetics/Religious Education or a related educational field required .
- Prior DRE experience preferred .
- Must be fluent in both Spanish & English.
Knowledge And Skills Preferred
- Good o rganizational skills .
- A bility to communicate well both orally and written .
- Curriculum planning experience.
- Ability to work with people of all ages .
- The ability to work with and coordinate activities with staff and volunteers
- The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
- Excellent computer skills and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications .
- Successful completion of the Parish Safe Environment process , including background check, required .
Travel Requirements
- Some travel is required , approximately 5% of the time for meetings and off-site events.
