General Summary Of Essential Purpose
The Kitchen Staff member supports the Head Cook in delivering nutritious and delicious meals for campers and staff. This role involves food preparation, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas, and ensuring adherence to health and safety standards.
Essential Position Duties
- Implement a food program that aligns with morally and environmentally conscious ideals.
- Participate in overall camp staff training to foster teamwork and effective communication.
- Follow the approved menu plan provided by the Head Cook to ensure consistency and quality.
- Utilize appropriate equipment in compliance with local health standards.
- Assist in cooking and dishwashing for all meals and special events, demonstrating flexibility in roles as needed.
- Prepare and serve appealing meals and snacks based on the provided menu, ensuring sufficient quantities while minimizing waste.
- Safely operate kitchen equipment, including electrical and mechanical tools, adhering to safety protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness by washing dishes, sanitizing food contact surfaces, and keeping the kitchen and dining areas tidy.
- Report any concerns or problems to the Seasonal Head Cook promptly.
- When not directly responsible for programming at their assigned program area helps out with lodge duties as assigned.
- Regularly clean and maintain all areas of the camp to uphold hygiene standards and create a pleasant environment for campers and staff.

- A good example for youth in appearance, attitudes, as well as in moral, ethical and spiritual behavior.
Education
HS Diploma or significant qualifying experience.
Experience
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with food safety practices and basic cooking skills is a plus.
- Experience working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating good communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under the guidance of the Head Cook and other supervisory staff.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and responsibilities in the kitchen setting.
- A positive attitude and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

- Strong communication skills, verbal.
- Ability to work under pressure in time constraints.
- Must be able to lift/unload/move food and supplies.
- Current CPR/First aid and Food Handlers required or willingness to obtain prior to camp season.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and live on site in rustic facilities while programs are in session.
- Must be over 18.
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
