The Archdiocese of Chicago, the third largest in the United States, serves more than 2.2 million Catholics in 216 parishes in Cook County and Lake County, a geographic area of 1,411 square miles. The Archdiocese, pastored by Cardinal Blase J. The Department of Parish Vitality and Mission (“DPVM”) Associate Director serves the Archdiocese of Chicago by overseeing various offices and ministries within DPVM, including directing the Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity and serving as the direct supervisor for the ethnic ministries, and campus ministries. Responsible for promoting collaboration across the ministries of DPVM with the goal of providing important and relevant resources for parishes, deaneries and vicariates in ministry related matters. Supports the Director in department culture building. The Associate Director will assist and support department directors/managers in developing and implementing strategy, managing staff, programs and budgets for their respective office ministries. Accountable to the Archbishop through the Director of the DPVM.
In a particular way, the Director of the Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity (“HDS”) is responsible for supporting each ministry within HDS to develop strategy, programs, and budgets, and to supervise each ministry’s senior coordinator. The strategic initiatives of HDS should work to enhance and enrich the path of missionary disciples. The Director of HDS also maintains relationships with external partners and remains apprised of current issues to raise to archdiocesan leadership.
Responsibilities
Department Associate Director
- Routinely meet with Director of DPVM to provide updates regarding ministry offices.
- Proactively lead collaboration efforts across DPVM ministries through a regular cadence of meetings.
- Closely coordinate with Director of DPVM to proactively report on relevant DPVM ministry developments to the Office of the Cardinal, as needed.
- Meet with ministry office leadership individually on a regular basis regarding strategy implementation and priority initiatives. Provide support, when needed, on staff or budgeting issues.
- Lead department culture building initiatives, including planning staff meetings and department community prayer and gatherings.
- Oversee the ethnic ministries of the archdiocese; supporting each ministry and ministry lead with organization, planning, and reporting.
- Serve as the formal supervisor and first point of contact for archdiocesan campus ministries housed in DPVM (University of Illinois-Chicago, University of Chicago, Northwestern University)
- Other duties as assigned.
Director of Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity
- Ensure each ministry within HDS has a clear strategy and plan; supporting each ministry in these strategy and planning efforts
- Supervise each ministry’s Senior Coordinator
- Proactively monitor ministry budgets on monthly basis with designated Finance personnel and raise variances immediately to the attention of the DPVM Operations Director.
- Collaborate with other local, state-wide, and national organizations in support of human dignity, sanctity of human life, peace, justice and immigration. This includes, but is not limited to, Catholic Charities of Chicago and the Catholic Conference of Illinois.
- Remain attentive to current HDS-related issues and events in the wider Chicago, Illinois, and national context to raise information to attention of archdiocesan leadership when appropriate
- Other duties as assigned.
