Position Summary: The Field Laborer performs outside field duties for the cemetery maintaining a high level of care and performs all work meeting or exceeding safety standards.
Compensation Data: Non-Exempt hourly pay ranging from $17.00 - $23.00 based on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Prepares graves and maintains cemetery grounds.
2. Perform snow removal
3. Perform landscaping including trimming grass/weeds, pruning trees and shrubbery, mowing grass.
4. Operates variety of equipment including mowers, string trimmers, Cushman, backhoe, dump truck tractor, bed edger, hedge trimmer and chain saw.
5. Position casket-lowering device on grave and covers dirt pile and sod with artificial grass carpet
6. Erects tent/canopy and arranges folding chairs to prepare site for burial service as well as removal of sod from gravesite
7. Prepares ground for burial including locating grave site by section, lot, and plot numbers. Mark area to be excavated
8. Prepare gravesite by digging grave to specified depth of 59 inches, places vault, places foundation grave marker and sets grave marker in concrete on gravesite.
9. Opens and closes mausoleum vaults.
10. Ensure all work is completed in adherence to safety policies and guidelines.
11. Maintain a high level of good housekeeping and care of company assets in the field, vehicles, shop, and worksites.
What you will need to succeed:
Education & Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license required
- 6 months or more related experience, training or equivalent combination of education and experience
Competencies:
- Ability to kneel, bend, pull weeds by hand around bushes, trees and flower beds
- Ability to operate heavy machinery such as dump truck, backhoe
- High level of customer service
- Excellent oral communication
- Ability to read and interpret written information
- Ability to observe safety and security procedures
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift or move up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to occasionally lift and or move more than 100 pounds.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, sit, balance, stoop, kneel.
- Ability to regularly use hands and arms.
Work Environment:
- Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Exposed to high precarious places and vibration.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
