Position Summary: The Director oversees, assesses, and promotes effective implementation of diocesan policies and guidelines related to catechesis and Christian initiation in parish. The Director confers with the parish priest. The Director provides ongoing education and catechetical certification programs for teachers and catechists and serves as a resource for volunteers. Working with the parish pastor and diocesan officials, the Director develops a comprehensive program faithful to Vatican and USCCB guidelines.

Essential Job Functions:
Provide leadership for diocesan catechetical and Initiation programs-develop, review
Evaluate current programs and texts and promote “best practices” communication
Provide and plan workshops for faith formation and catechesis
Develop certification program for catechists and catholic school teachers
Communicate magisterial teachings, guidelines
Participate in deanery and diocesan meetings of principals, teachers, DRE’s, Catechists
Serve as resource person and clearing house for new religious ed. programs and materials
Meet with diocesan officials for ongoing review
Develop and monitor annual budget
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Significant amount of independent judgment and discretion is needed.
Education Requirements/Position Qualifications: Practicing Catholic with theological training and experience in various levels of religious education and catechist formation; strong written and verbal communication skills; organizational and collaborative skills. Theological training (M.A. and Ph.D. preferred). Extensive experience in religious education and administration.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
This position requires standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, using hands, using feet, climbing/balancing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching above shoulders, and tasting/smelling at least 1/3 of the time. This position requires that you will lift up to 25 pounds at least 1/3 of the time.
