St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church on Hilton Head Island is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Children’s Faith Formation. The ideal candidate possesses a strong prayer life, an extensive knowledge of the Catholic faith, is energetic, confident, self-motivated, a good communicator, and is passionate about forming our children in our Catholic faith. This person reports to the Director of Faith Formation and is responsible for designing, articulating and implementing the children’s faith formation program in accordance with diocesan guidelines and the parish vision and mission. The candidate must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes some Sundays and evenings.
Key Responsibilities:
Administration:
- Plan and direct the Faith Formation program for grades Pre-K through 5, which includes sacrament preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
- Provide formation and education of catechists leading to their certification.
- Supervise the Faith Formation Office Assistant to maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and sacramental records.
- Assist in sacramental celebrations, including Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.
- Coordinate compliance with Safe Environment policies for catechists and other volunteers, as directed by the Diocesan Safe Environment policy.
Communication:
- Communicate regularly with parents, catechists and parishioners regarding program schedules and events.
- Coordinate with the Director of Communication to promote Faith Formation events and activities in the parish website and bulletin.
- Organize and conduct Parent Meetings, as necessary.
- Report statistics of parish programs quarterly.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the Pastor, Parochial Vicar, Faith Formation Team and other members of parish staff for planning, budgeting and program promotion.
- Participate in local deanery meetings, collaborate with other parish leaders in and outside the deanery, and attend diocesan events.
- Work with St. Francis Catholic School and John Paul II School to coordinate sacramental preparation.
- Coordinate with other deanery parishes for the sacrament of Confirmation and retreats.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Catechetics, Pastoral Studies, or related field relevant to the position.
- Applicants with extensive experience in parish ministry and leadership will also be considered, provided they can be enrolled in a degree-seeking or certification program.
- Deeply committed, fully initiated member of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn parish administrative programs such as ParishSoft and Flocknote.
- Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
