The Evangelization Consultant, will work in collaboration with the other teams in the Secretariat for Evangelization and Discipleship and other offices and departments of the Central Ministries of the Archdiocese of Boston, with an emphasis on evangelization, discipleship, and faith formation. The consultant is responsible for the development and implementation of trainings, events, resources, and support necessary in assisting parishes and collaboratives in growing as centers evangelization and discipleship.
Other responsibilities may include involvement in other initiatives associated with supporting parishes in learning about and engaging in the mission of the Catholic Church as lived out in the Archdiocese of Boston.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and implement retreats, days of reflection, workshops, in-services, and other events for parish clergy, staff, council members, and volunteers, especially faith formation and ministry leaders.
Engage regional Episcopal Vicars, Vicars Forane, pastors, parish staff, pastoral and finance councils, school boards, other archdiocesan departments, and other Catholic entities in consultative services related to evangelization, discipleship, catechesis, leadership development, teambuilding, and pastoral planning.
Research and help parishes implement best practices for evangelization, discipleship, catechesis, leadership, and faith formation.
Facilitate workshops for evangelization, discipleship, catechesis, leadership development, and faith formation.
Serve as a resource to the archdiocese in the areas of child, adolescent, youth, young adult, adult, and intergenerational faith formation and ministry.
Assist in creating and maintaining the department website and other print and digital materials and communication tools to support evangelization and discipleship.
Other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Catholic in good standing, who understands and supports the mission of the Church and of the Archdiocese of Boston.
A willingness to be a leader in the evangelization efforts of the Church, including being a witness to one's own relationship with Jesus Christ.
Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a diocesan, parish, school, apostolate or similar setting.
Must have experience and knowledge of the Catholic faith and the Church's mission of evangelization and a demonstrated ability to lead others to embrace this mission in their own lives.
Knowledge of Church teaching and current literature on evangelization, discipleship and catechesis.
Ability to articulate authentic Catholic teaching, advise on pastoral needs and program responses.
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 as well as social networking tools. Experience with Macs a plus.
Experience working with the public and handling issues/complaints in a diplomatic manner.
Ability to anticipate needs, establish priorities, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate discretion, project a positive attitude, and exercise a high level of professionalism.
Strong skills in organizing, multi-tasking, and following through in a busy, changing environment.
Excellent relationship-building skills with a focus on service to others. A high level of energy, creativity and humor. Ability to establish trust and work collaboratively.
Ability to communicate effectively through e-mail and/or telephone.
Must possess strong communication skills (both oral and written).
Familiarity with a variety of ethnicities and cultures and ability to communicate in languages in addition to English would be helpful and willingness to learn about other cultures is necessary.
Strong interpersonal, leadership, and presentation/public speaking skills.
Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Boston.
Flexible work schedule including nights and weekends.
