Job Summary: The Patient Collection Representative I will act as a liaison between Patient Account Services, physician offices, clinical areas, attorney offices, patients and third-party carriers to identify and resolve account discrepancies along with patient concerns and inquiries.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.
Work Experience: Minimum 1 year of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of basic healthcare and insurance terminology. High level of timeliness and attention to detail. Knowledge of basic computer functions. Ability to navigate insurance website to determine patient eligibility. Excellent communication, telephone etiquette and customer service skills. Knowledge of medical billing insurance and follow-up activities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Monitors, researches and updates patient account to resolve balances according to established protocols. Answers patient, insurance, and client calls and responds to correspondences in a time frame that meets or exceeds standards to ensure resolution of account balances. Assists with documentation requests, eligibility issues, and contractual payment accuracy. Utilizes appropriate guidelines to evaluate and adjust accounts based upon the patient/account status (deceased patient, small balance, charity, etc.). Reviews past due self-pay balances for assignment to outside collection sources, financial assistance or payment opportunities. Performs assigned work queues, daily tasks, account follow-up activities and related duties or other duties based on productivity expectations per assignment.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
