As a member of the advancement department of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland, the director of fund development is responsible for planning and administering fundraising and development efforts to support our mission of providing help, creating hope and serving all. Strategic Planning and Management
- The director of fund development is responsible for partnering with Catholic Community Foundation to support donor identification, cultivation and management as well as develop a complementary process for non-appeal potential donors to support the mission and services of Catholic Charities.
- Is a flexible, creative and strategic thinker able to develop complementary campaigns that support overall giving to Catholic Charities. These campaigns will be focused on non-appeal donors and mostly donors of other faith traditions who value the tremendous work of Catholic Charities.
- Identifies ways to identify, outreach and engage potential donors that are not currently giving to Catholic Charities. This position works collaboratively with the key programs and services to identify key stakeholders and corresponding outreach strategies to engage in newly created giving opportunities. This position is responsible for engaging new donors with well-defined strategies to increase giving over time.
- Create vehicles for peer-to-peer fundraising strategies to initially build donor list.
- Works closely with the senior director of advancement to assist with annual budget preparation to set annual goals for fund development activities managed internally by Catholic Charities and conducted in synergy with annual appeal. Projects and tracks revenue and expenses throughout the year.
- Serves as a key liaison to the Catholic Community Foundation to support donor cultivation and stewardship.
- Attends planning meetings and builds relationships with executives and program leadership to support organizational priorities and align with donor intent.
Donor Relations and Stewardship
- Builds and assumes a portfolio of donors and conducts direct solicitations, establishing a pipeline of prospects guided by moves management principles.
- Builds sustainable relationships with community leaders, government leaders, major corporations, civic groups, funding sources and service organizations.
- Devises and directs cultivation and recognition events ensuring donor acknowledgement and naming opportunities, stewardship and public recognition.
Fundraising Campaigns and Events
- Organizes, coordinates and implements donor recognition events and activities for specific programs, sites and services across Catholic Charities (in synergy with the annual appeal activities).
Reporting and Analysis
- Establishes appropriate giving protocols and gift tracking.
- Ensures timely submission of fundraising reports and deliverables.
- Evaluates vendors/vendor contracts for development operations and makes recommendations on renewals and/or changes.
Collaboration
- Integrates communications and marketing efforts into the development plan.
- Works with the Catholic Charities advancement board committee to effectively engage the members to support the organization and strategic initiatives, strengthen relationships in the community, while providing a sense of accomplishment.
- Stays current on industry trends and regulations related to fundraising.
- Identifies and addresses any issues or challenges that may arise within policies and procedures.
- Upholds the values and mission of Catholic Charities in all fund development activities.
- Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Continuously evaluates and improves fund development processes and procedures.
- Contributes to a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Master’s degree preferred with at least three years of fundraising experience or bachelor’s degree (in a relevant field such as business administration, health sciences or finance) and a minimum of five years of fundraising experience. CFRE (Certified Fund-Raising Executive) desired.
- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, relationship-building skills, be organized and persistent, have prior management experience, and a demonstrated ability to work with and motivate others.
- Self-starter who can work independently and collaborate with professional colleagues in both philanthropy and program settings.
- Demonstrated track record of entrepreneurial approaches to problem-solving, an ability to stay focused in the face of possible obstacles, and the ability to be resourceful in maximizing full resources.
- Experience in social/human services and health fields preferred.
- Solid technical skills, with strong working knowledge of fund development software and databases.
- Detail-oriented, with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accurate records.
- Understanding of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, Catholic Social Teaching, and mission of Catholic Charities.
- Must have valid Ohio driver’s license and reliable means of transportation for local travel.
- Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
- Experience staffing senior-level executives and volunteers.
- Experience shaping campaign messaging and working with multiple communication platforms to customize donor approach and experience.
- Ability for some evening and weekend work.
