Position Summary
The Pontifical Mission Societies (TPMS) are a worldwide network at the service of the Pope that supports the missions and the Young Churches with prayer and charity. Through four societies –the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Society of St. Peter the Apostle, the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious – and the World Mission Sunday National Collection, we inspire support for the Church in communities where Christianity is too new, young, or poor to be self-sufficient.
As an integral member of the advancement team, the Development Officer (DO) is responsible for raising funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support
TPMS’ mission and operations. The DO will work primarily in the Western and Southwestern Region of the U.S. Successful candidates will have demonstrated success in prior professional fundraising or related roles (e.g., financial advising, marketing).
This is a full-time remote position in the Western or Southwestern United States. Salary is commensurate to education and work experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify, cultivate and solicit current and prospective donors for annual gifts, multi-year commitments and planned gifts to generate sustained financial support for the TPMS’ operations and programs.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of 125+ prospects to build and enhance donor relationships, educate and engage them in TPMS’ work, and solicit gifts to meet, and if possible, exceed fundraising goals.
- Collaborate with advancement colleagues to implement stewardship strategies for major donors.
- Seek opportunities to identify, cultivate and secure support from new demographic, regional and/or affinity groups to diversify and deepen TPMS’ base of support.
- Execute an ongoing, robust, and proactive donor discovery and qualification/disqualification program to assess the capacity and interest of existing and potential donors, engaging them to deepen their philanthropic support for TPMS.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Regions and Diocesan Impact Team to identify prospects and leads.
- Implement fundraising events and activities, including but not limited to (a) personal solicitations (face-to-face meetings, phone calls, etc.); (b) cultivation and stewardship events including gratitude masses and initiatives targeted at specific dioceses.
- Arrange for donors and prospective supporters to meet with the Vice President for Advancement and/or other key staff.
- Represent TPMS to the Catholic community, current contributors, and potential donors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or related relationship management field.
- Four-year college degree; advanced degree desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
- Experience managing special events and programs and corresponding follow-through.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, define and set priorities and problem-solve.
- Comfort working in a creative, problem-solving, results- and team-oriented environment.
- Bilingual a plus.
- Availability to work independently and collaborate and coordinate with others
- Availability to work outside of traditional business hours, to travel regionally and nationally.
- Occasional travel to St. Petersburg, Florida for staff retreats.
- Excellent skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and working with CRMs.
- Prefer a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing, knowledgeable and living in accord with the tenets of the Church.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
