Under the direction of the Superintendent and the Head Groundskeeper, the full-time groundskeeper will execute all duties and responsibilities assigned to them in a way that is mindful of the solemn and Christian nature of the cemetery. This will include funeral set-up, parking assistance, and attendance of funeral services. Mowing/trimming grass, pruning/trimming trees. Concrete work and Monument installation. Maintaining cleanliness/neatness of the cemetery. Safe operation of riding lawn mower, gas trimmer, and chain saw. Removal of snow, leaves, and dead/diseased trees. Responsible for picking up any garbage or litter found on the grounds. May use hoes, rakes, spades, and power tools. Maintenance of equipment and vehicles. Watering of lawn, trees, and plants.
Required Knowledge, Education, and Experience: Safe operation of power/hand tools and small equipment. Safe operation of riding lawn mowers, gas trimmers, and chainsaws. Basic understanding of landscape operations. Excellent team and customer-relation skills.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Working outside all day in different weather environments. Requires reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, twisting, balancing, climbing, lifting, shoveling, and walking uneven terrain. Must be able to walk up and down the hills and stand for prolonged periods. Physically able to carry gas powered trimmer for several hours, lift and maneuver 50 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
Equipment/machinery used: Power and hand tools, small equipment, riding lawnmowers, gas trimmers, chainsaws, tree trimmers, hoes, rakes, spades, other gardening tools, concrete mixer, ATV, earth-moving equipment, dump truck.
A High School Diploma or GED is not required but preferred. Complete criminal background checks must be agreed to, obtained, and passed, prior to employment.
This position starts with a probationary period, with the opportunity to advance to a full-time regular, benefit position. When in probational status, the employee will receive accumulating paid sick time and will receive holiday pay. If chosen to advance to a full-time regular position, the employee will also begin accruing vacation time and will receive health, dental, vision, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, and disability insurance at no cost to the employee. Family coverage is available for the employee to purchase at their own cost. The full-time regular employee will also receive pension, with employer matching.
