Bilingual Community Organizer – New Brunswick, NJ
Job Summary:
The Bilingual Community Organizer will play a crucial role in fostering community engagement and enhancing the accessibility of resources and services for the diverse residents of the Unity Square neighborhood. This position involves leading community organizing efforts, developing strategic partnerships, and implementing programs that align with the mission of Catholic Charities Diocese of Metuchen. The Community Organizer will work closely with residents, local organizations, and stakeholders to build a strong, inclusive community through outreach, advocacy, and direct support initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Organizing & Outreach:
- Develop and lead community outreach initiatives to engage residents, and increase awareness of available services.
- Organize and facilitate community conversations, and focus groups, to identify community needs.
- Conduct outreach, tabling at community events, and other engagement activities to build relationships and trust within the community.
Program Development & Implementation:
- Develop culturally-responsive programming, assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of community programs, including community gardens, educational workshops, and wellness initiatives, to address the needs of Unity Square residents.
- Manage weekly operations of the Choice Food Resource Center, ensuring efficient service delivery and a positive experience for all participants.
Partnership Acquisition & Collaboration:
- Identify, establish, and maintain partnerships with local organizations, businesses, schools, and other stakeholders to enhance program offerings and extend the reach of services provided by Unity Square Community Center.
- Work collaboratively with partner organizations to coordinate joint initiatives, resource sharing, and advocacy efforts that benefit the Unity Square community.
Data Collection & Reporting:
- Assist in collecting and analyzing data from community surveys, program evaluations, and outreach activities to prepare reports and inform program development and measure impact.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
- Associates degree in social work, community development, public health, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Previous experience in community organizing, outreach, or a related role.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage diverse populations.
- Passion for social justice, community empowerment, and advocacy.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data collection tools.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires local travel within New Brunswick and occasional attendance at off-site meetings and events.
- Heavy lifting, organizing, and stocking shelves is required, particularly in support of the Choice Food Resource Center and other community programs.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to changing community needs.
