Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (negotiable); shares evening and weekend on-call duty for emergency support (required).
Position Summary
The Instructional Designer, a key member of Franciscan’s eLearning Support Team, reports to the Senior Instructional Designer to support students, faculty, and staff in implementing and using the Learning Management System and other instructional technology tools. The Instructional Designer works closely with faculty to envision, design, and build engaging, dynamic, and beautiful online courses.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with faculty from diverse disciplines to envision, design, and build online and hybrid courses.
- Collaborate with videographer on the process of recording and editing of faculty videos in the studio and classroom.
- Collaborate with the Student Success Staff to ensure online courses meet ADA Compliance and manage captioning and delivery of online videos and other multimedia content.
- Provide support to students and faculty in using Canvas and other eLearning tools in-person, by telephone, email, web conferencing, and screen sharing.
- Participate regularly in the on-call rotation to support students and faculty in online courses after hours and on Saturdays.
- Work with faculty to decide on and create multimedia and graphic content for online courses.
- Continually improve functionality and design of online courses.
- Conduct course reviews using the established course review rubric to ensure standards of excellence are met prior to course offering.

Technical Skills
- Demonstrated expertise and passion for building engaging, innovative, and content rich online and hybrid courses on Canvas or similar Learning Management System.
- Demonstrated excellence in and passion for using and supporting students and faculty using Canvas and other eLearning tools in higher education.
- Demonstrated excellence in and passion for using and supporting students and faculty using video recording and editing equipment as well as virtual classroom environments such as Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams.
- Demonstrated excellence in and passion for using and supporting applications for creating engaging instructional materials including MS Office 365, Adobe Suite, Zoom, and the ability to quickly learn new applications as needed, screen capture, video recording, etc.
- Demonstrated experience and passion for graphic design, web design, and multimedia design.
Non-Technical Skills (Competencies)
- Demonstrated dedication to and passion for Franciscan University mission.
- Demonstrated experience in and passion for working collaboratively with diverse University students and faculty members in a variety of disciplines.

Education & Experience
- 1-2 years of experience using and providing direct eLearning support to University students and faculty in use of eLearning tools.
- Master’s Degree in Instructional Design or related field preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in related field in combination with experience will be considered.
- Experience and expertise in using and supporting learning management system (Canvas preferred), web video conferencing (Zoom preferred), video recording and editing and experience supporting computer and video hardware, peripherals (i.e., web cams), and operating systems.
- Experience supporting web browsers and smart devices and their interface with 3rd party applications.
- Evidence of understanding of current and emerging technologies and ability and passion to quickly learn new technologies used for collaboration, teaching, and learning.
Workplace Factors
- Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (negotiable).
- Sharing evening and weekend on-call duty for after-hours support required.
