Summary: Responsible for overseeing the entire day to day operations of the kitchen, supervise kitchen staff and ensure the kitchen area meets health and safety requirements.
Job Tasks
- Prepare daily production and prep list
- Assign, coordinate and supervise the set-up and food production areas within the kitchen to maximize productivity and minimize waste
- Ensure all stations remain stocked before and during the meal period
- Ensure kitchen staff follows cooking procedures, recipes and portions according to Menu Builds
- Keep kitchen, dish, and storage areas clean and organized
- Conduct inventory to minimize orders and keep food costs inline
- Ensure proper inventory procedures are followed (FIFO)
- Place food and supply orders as directed
- Receive product, verify invoice and freshness of merchandise. Ensure credits are applied where needed.
- Train employees to company standards
- Actively participates as a member of the management team
- Manage kitchen staff scheduling keeping labor costs in line
- Manage staffing levels throughout shift
- Hold kitchen staff accountable for job performance
- Smile and maintain a positive, respectful attitude at all times
- Perform food preparation duties
- Follow all standards of the Residence
- Facilitate communication in kitchen to ensure food service is coordinated and timely
- Check food for quality and presentation, following Menu Builds, before serving
- Ensure food is handled in a sanitary manner
- Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and storage areas
- Ensure line is kept clean at all times
- Assess and maintain all storage and food prep equipment
- Complete beginning, change and end of shift side duties
- Plan and execute food menu for events
- Keep food costs in line with budget
- Additional tasks as assigned
Main Responsibilities, Required Skills And Knowledge
Communication: Must clearly communicate in a professional manner with Residents, vendors, coworkers and management. Must understand instructions, read written company memos and communicate when he or she needs more direction or training.
Interpersonal Relationships: Must adapt to different personalities of Residents and coworkers without losing focus.
Teamwork: Working together as a team is a critical success factor for the employees of the Residence. Establishing good working relationships is key to maintaining a team-oriented, Christian centered work environment.
Performing General Physical Activities: Must perform physical activities in a variety of environmental conditions that require moderate strength including cleaning, climbing, lifting, walking, balancing and handling of materials. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Problem Solving and Conflict Management: Must recognize a problem when it arises and be able to resolve it appropriately by using good judgement, tact, and initiative according to company policy and procedure.
Analytical Skills: General accounting and mathematical skills required along with point-of-sale application knowledge.
Quality Control and Priority Assessment: Must evaluate current practices and processes; immediately recognize potential areas of conflict; and initiate ways to improve current business methods, quality of products and services provided to the Residents.
Time Management Skills: Must know and use methods and organizational techniques to delegate appropriate tasks and manage staff workloads in a manner that promotes efficiency and respects the time of others.
Language Skills: Must be able to speak, understand and write English effectively.
Flexibility: Willing to assist with the workload of others when needed and take on additional responsibilities that may be assigned at any given time based on volume of business, staffing, etc.
