Position Description
Physical Education/Health Long Term Substitute Teacher for January - April 2025
We encourage a broadly diverse pool of applicants for all positions as we work intentionally to create a faculty and administration that reflect our student body. The selected applicant will be responsible for teaching various level courses, including Phys Ed, Health, and Nutrition and Exercise.
Qualified applicants should skillfully demonstrate the following competencies and be prepared to teach in a welcoming and inspiring learning environment. The selected applicant will:
- teach all assigned physical education classes in alignment with school curriculum and standards.
- create a positive, engaging, and safe learning environment that fosters student participation and well-being.
- promote students' physical fitness, health literacy, and an understanding of the importance of lifelong wellness.
- encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal discipline through athletic activities.
- manage classroom behavior and ensure a respectful atmosphere aligned with Mercy Core Values.
- communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to support students' progress.
- create lesson plans designed to support mastery of grade level essential outcomes consistent with school goals and objectives.
- work effectively and willingly with students of diverse backgrounds including race, culture and socio-economic status.
- have effective verbal and written communication skills in interacting with various stakeholders.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
The preferred applicant will hold a State of Michigan teaching certification with an MA/MB endorsement. Preference will be given to applicants with a Master’s Degree. A minimum of two years teaching experience at the high school level is preferred.
The selected candidate must attend an Archdiocesan Protecting God’s Children workshop and complete a background check.
