BOOKKEEPER BASIC FUNCTIONS: The Bookkeeper is responsible to ensure that accounts payable are paid on time, financial transactions are recorded correctly, payroll is processed on time and that regulatory filings are submitted correctly. Specific responsibilities shown below.
STATUS/CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Non-exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Parish Operations
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Maintains Chart of Accounts in compliance with the Diocesan Financial Policies • Maintains records of financial transactions in the financial system • Processes weekly collections and other contributions in the financial system. • Processes invoices and create accounts payable checks. • Processes employee records and processes payroll • Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing accounting for information. • Reconciles bank statements with the financial system. • Advises management on compliance needs. • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding sensitive church matters and personal information of members. • Collaborates with other church staff members and volunteers to support various ministries and initiatives. SKILLS: • Ability to apply and exercise good judgment and safety standards. • Possesses the ability to work well with limited supervision. • Must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks at one time. • Demonstrated skill in reading comprehension, especially in understanding written directions and supervisory communications. • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Proficiency in using office software, such as Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent. • Good communication and interpersonal abilities. • Previous bookkeeper experience, preferably in a church or non-profit setting, may be preferred.
EDUCATION/TRAINING: • Degree: High School Diploma or Equivalent • Background in Bookkeeping and/or Accounting • Must pass appropriate background checks.
