Maintenance Technician
Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician reports to the Director of Maintenance and works closely with the head of school and other parish and school staff to ensure the functioning, cleanliness and safety of the school and parish facilities and grounds. Duties include daytime janitorial work as well as grounds upkeep and maintenance/repairs tasks. The Maintenance Technician has a “can do” attitude and is generous, personable and candid.
Responsibilities
- Performs and/or supervises work related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, safety and security systems, grounds maintenance, sprinkler systems, and snow removal.
- Performs simple maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, painting, replacing air filters, and minor repairs.
- Light cleaning and restroom upkeep and additional daytime janitorial duties, as needed. (Major cleaning addressed by nighttime janitorial service).
- Ensure that all restrooms are stocked with necessary supplies such as toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels.
- Maintain an inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies and equipment, and order additional supplies as needed.
- Basic upkeep of the landscaping, including picking up garbage, clearing debris, weed control, removing snow from sidewalks, and other upkeep as necessary.
- Set up and take down tables and chairs for events.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
Qualifications
- 5+ years’ maintenance experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with attention to detail.
- Team player who can build relationships and collaborate effectively with fellow staff members, contractors and volunteers.
- Excellent working knowledge of all aspects of building systems, able to perform minor electrical, plumbing, machinery and other mechanical equipment repair.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and city regulations impacting facility operations.
- Able to meet physical demands of the position, including carrying 50 pounds, standing for long periods of time, climbing ladders, and operating power tools and other equipment.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Experience working in a PreK – 8 school a plus.
- Positive attitude toward the Catholic Church, her teachings, and her work. This person refrains from public promotion or approval of, any conduct considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrines or morals.
