Description
Christ the King Catholic Church is seeking to hire an Organist/Accompanist for Sacred Music for mass and liturgical celebration for the parish. The parish Organist/Accompanist is a professional musician who has a thorough understanding of the Roman Catholic Liturgy. The Organist/Accompanist is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of music within liturgical and non-liturgical celebrations. The Organist/Accompanist works towards the parish vision of leading people to a deeper relationship with God and leads the ministry with that intention.
The general responsibilities for this position are:
1. To oversee, evaluate, and coordinate all sacred music in consultation with the Pastor.
2. To recruit, develop, and retain cantors and choir members for Saturday/Sunday Masses as well as all Holy Day Masses, Holy Week Liturgies, Confirmation, First Communion and other liturgies
3. To prepare any worship aids and encourage singing from the hymnal for all liturgies
4. To foster active participation in the liturgy through beautiful sacred music, encouraging both congregational singing, as well as the prayerful execution of instrumental and choral/solo musical selections
5. To be available (schedule permitting) to play at funerals and weddings when requested or to help find a suitable replacement5
6. To assist in the preparation of all parish weddings and funerals by consulting with individuals/families and any other musicians to plan music that is appropriate for the Catholic liturgy
7. To teach new music on occasion prior to Mass, including for instance, new settings for the ordinary of the Mass for each of the liturgical seasons
8. To keep current with developments in Catholic Sacred Music and with the Church’s liturgical guidelines
9. Complete other tasks as deemed necessary or assigned by the Pastor
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and knowledge:
- Proficient in choral conducting, organ, and Roman Catholic liturgy.
- At least three (3) years of equivalent experience.
- Energetic with ability to engage all parishioners and train a choir
- Must have knowledge of the Catholic faith
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license
- Must successfully complete a criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review, and drug screening
- Must complete Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources
