The Church of Jesus the Good Shepherd, a Catholic parish of 1000 families (and elementary school of 325 students) in Monroe, Louisiana, seeks a full time Director of Music Ministry (DMM). The DMM oversees all aspects of liturgical music in the parish and works closely with the Liturgy Committee and pastor.
The DMM is the organist and choir director, responsible for developing liturgical music for all Masses, Holy Days, special liturgical celebrations, weddings and funerals. The DMM provides training to parish musicians and scheduling and hiring of other musicians as needed. The DMM recruits cantors, instrumentalists, substitute accompanists, choir members and supervises the music library with the assistance of volunteers.
The position requires musical proficiency in organ, piano and voice as well as a thorough knowledge of Church liturgical guidelines and norms. The DMM must be a practicing Catholic and able to flow easily between contemporary, praise and worship, traditional and age-appropriate music for children.
The nature of the position requires working full-time and not limited to an 8-hour day and this person will need to be available in the evening and weekends as needed. A Masters in Music is preferred with 3+ years of experience in a church position. All candidates should have a comprehensive knowledge of the teachings and practices of the Catholic Faith, demonstrate a passion for and love of liturgical music, possess strong written and oral communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office.
