Position Summary:
St. Lucy Day Care & Child Development Center Cook is responsible for the daily preparation of breakfast, lunch and snacks for the Center's children. The Cook is also responsible for inventory control, menu research, food safety and preparing and maintaining all required documents and reports for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for the Cook:

Specific Responsibilities
- Prepare breakfast, lunch and snack.
- Serve breakfast, lunch and snack with proper portion controls based on CACFP guidelines.
- Wash breakfast and lunch dishes and utensils properly, using grease control measures.
- Prepare afternoon snack.
- Check operation of refrigerators and freezers to insure they are functioning properly. Record freezer and refrigerator temperatures daily.
- Set aside a sample plate daily, if required.
- Take Daily, Weekly and Monthly Food Inventory.
- Deliver breakfast and snacks to Lil Tykes and Toddlers.
General Responsibilities
- Prepare meals.
- Make and Store food orders.
- Always keep kitchen, cafeteria and storage rooms clean.
- Clean stove, ovens, refrigerator, and freezer as often as necessary
- Maintain neat and clean physical appearance kitchen, cafeteria, and storage rooms.
- Follow meal schedule as closely as possible.
- Report illness and/or absenteeism as early as possible
- Attend in-service meetings and obtain at lease three hours of documented training in health and food safety, each year.
- Take food inventory each Friday and turn in for processing.
- Other duties as assigned by Director.
Other or Shared Responsibilities:
- Work with the staff members in a cooperative manner
- Attend staff meetings when necessary.
- Assist Teachers with the introduction of foods.
Qualifications to Perform the Job Successfully:
Other Skills Required: Ability to follow menus and understand portion control and nutritional guidelines required by CACFP. Reading and organizational skills necessary for inventory control, menu research, and following recipes is a requirement. Ability to pass a criminal record check and safe environment training required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Pass Criminal Background Check required by Louisiana Department of Education for Child Care Facilities.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions: The work requires routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items weighing less than fifty pounds. Moving items over fifty pounds utilizes a team lift.
Other Requirements: St. Lucy Day Care and Child Development Center is a program of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. St. Lucy student and staff information is confidential. Staff must always maintain strict confidentiality.
- Breach of confidentiality is cause for immediate dismissal.
