Warehouse Pantry Assistant

This position will require working up to two Saturdays a month and occasional evenings.
Position Description: Plan, receive, process, and prepare food and non-food donations and purchased resources for pantry distribution to help those in need under the direction of the Pantry Manager or Pantry Assistant Manager with an emphasis on safety.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist Pantry Manager and Pantry Assistant Manager in securing adequate food supplies of perishable and non-perishable foods for client distribution; place weekly food and non-food orders from Manassas Warehouse; identify and report low inventories of unavailable foods in Manassas Warehouse for procurement options.
- Pick up food orders and donations from local food bank and grocery/retail stores as needed.
- Assist management with order preparation, recording, processing, and reporting of the USDA-TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance) inventory per standard.
- Maintain full pantry, warehouse shelves, and supervise volunteers in properly restocking of client shopping and warehouse shelves per Agency safety standards.
- Coordinate and manage regular food deliveries and donations arrive in conjunction with volunteer assistance for safe unloading, processing, and storage.
- Process and document incoming food and non-food purchases and donations according to guidelines; communicate needed items to donors.
- Ensure pantry and storage areas are clean and organized; ensure compliance of food safety and handling guidelines; document daily freezer and refrigerators temperature charts; document facility maintenance and food safety issues.
Other Duties:
- Assist Pantry Manager and Pantry Assistant Manager with monthly food reports using Microsoft Excel.
- Support the Pantry Manager in setting up other CCDA and educational programs at the pantry that aid in transforming clients’ lives.
- Lead volunteer groups and individuals in safe pantry processes and activities to support operations and client distribution.
- Follow Operations Manager guidance regarding OSHA and other safety procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong listening skills and ability to respectfully work others with poise and diplomacy.
- Ability to work in a team setting and independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communications skills.
- Good planning and prioritization skills and ability to work strategically.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software applications.
- Must have valid Virginia driver’s license, 3 years of driving and a safe driving record.
- Bilingual English/Spanish/Pashto/Dari a plus.
Education and Experience:
- Experience working with adults and school age volunteers is required.
- Social services experience with underserved populations is a plus.
- Knowledge and/or experience of food distribution or food pantry operations is a plus.
- If not certified, complete food safety and handling training within 120 days at Catholic Charities expense.
Physical Demands:
- Able to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds, stand on ladder and twist to hand box up or down ladder; use tools such as hand trucks, dollies, or carts for loading and unloading.
- Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to use a computer keyboard and handle heavy boxes and pallets of food; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and climb a ladder and stairs.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
