St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School is seeking a Part-Time Choir Director and Theatre Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The Part-Time High School Choir Director and Theatre Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by teaching and leading choir classes and providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in theatre arts at St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School. The Choir Director and Theatre Teacher reports to the principals and has decision-making responsibilities within the framework of school policies, philosophy, organization, and curriculum.
Essential Job Functions
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese.
- Plans for instruction with logically sequenced objectives based on adopted curriculum and submits plans according to school policies.
- Teaches choir classes for high school.
- Selects, purchases, and organizes materials for concerts and daily use (warm-ups, sightreading, vocal technique).
- Prepares choirs for Solo and Ensemble competition, TAPPS Concert and Sightreading Contest.
- Teaches beginning theater course for high school.
- Teaches acting principles to students in a group setting.
- Emphasizes skills like enunciation, diction, and dialect development using speech drills, improvisation, explanation, and other voice exercises.
- Explains body language and expression, engages students in character development and personality projection.
- Selects, edits, casts and directs plays and other theatre art forms for public performance.
- Practices positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom.
- Communicates with parents regarding academic, behavioral, and safety concerns.
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
- Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education from an accredited university.
Experience
- Previous teaching experience preferred.
Certifications And Training
- Must meet the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCB.
- Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
- Must meet staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese and school administration, which include 50 hours of Religion classes over a 2-year period.
