The nature of the role this position serves within the organization is to effectively operate and maintain safe, functional, clean and efficient plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration systems in order to provide an attractive living, learning and working environment throughout the university. This position will work as part of a maintenance team, and will report and receive direction directly from a Maintenance Team Leader and or Master Electrician.
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $32.89 hourly.
Responsibilities:
Make repairs as required to flush valves, toilets, water heaters, and other types of installed plumbing equipment. Snakes and unclogs drain pipes as needed using powered drain cleaning machine or jetter. Troubleshoot leaks. Responds to calls for maintenance on or persons trapped in elevators and also fire alarm calls on campus. Performs routine checks on fire extinguishers and fire sprinkler systems as needed. May assist with fire alarm drills. Repair flooring, ceilings, walls, doors, hardware, thresholds, door jams, roofing (troubleshoot leaks) and other types of building components. Perform repairs to kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, fryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, garbage disposals. Change light bulbs and/or retrofit to LED, add or replace outlets or switches. Replace fluorescent tubes in a variety of types of lighting fixtures. Clean light lenses, replace ballasts, drivers, etc. Troubleshoot circuit issues, etc. Make general repairs, clean up broken glass, boarding up windows, repair furniture, loose hand rails, stair treads, etc. Hang pictures and mirrors and assists building occupants with the movement, realignment or assembly of furniture, temporary partitions or other stationary building components. Hangs and maintains building signage including interior and exterior graphics, decorations, banners, road signs, etc. With appropriate approval; helps to maintain, operate, and repair pneumatic and electrical controls pertaining to heating and air conditioning. Performs work as scheduled through the computerized work order system to ensure systems are consistently in good working order, and work is accomplished as quickly as possible. Inspects and maintains all building mechanical rooms and equipment; repairing and/or reporting failed or failing equipment as appropriate, providing safe and clean working condition for employees. Assists with keeping maintenance shops, work vehicles and building mechanical rooms clean and orderly. As appropriate, orders required parts and materials for minor and major repair work, to ensure necessary supplies are available. Assist other trades people, outside contractors and maintenance personnel in order to perform and accomplish high quality work. Responds to emergency callbacks as needed. Responds to emergency maintenance requests to include the need to unstop toilets, sinks, floor drains, drinking fountains and electrical outages as requested. Must be able to prioritize assigned or requested tasks.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or G.E.D. Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience operating and maintaining plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems to include roofing. District of Columbia Electrician’s license (or ability to obtain in 3 months).
Proficient with repairs to various types of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, including addressable types.
Knowledge of electrical generator servicing and repairs. (All makes).
Computer or tablet skills (word-processing, e-mail, etc.).
Good written and oral communications skills.
Must have the ability to drive a campus vehicle or possibly walk from building to building with tools.
Possession of a current and valid U.S. driver’s license appropriate to the type of university vehicle and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Driving Record (MVR) as stipulated in the Vehicles Guidelines and Procedures Manual administered through the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
Annual clearance of MVR check through the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
