Under the direction of the school principal, this individual will assist designated students in basic skills, assist in school programs, and support the academic development of an identified population of students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reinforce basic skills among designated K-5 students in collaboration with the regular classroom teacher, utilizing adopted resources and appropriate teaching strategies.
Provide individual or small group instruction, tailoring the curriculum to meet the needs of every student; teach students in areas of citizenship, basic communication skills, study habits, and other core elements of the curriculum as outlined in state frameworks and the administrative regulations of the school district.
Assess students’ academic and social development, communicate the results to the regular classroom teacher, maintain proper records, and prepare progress reports and report cards using district systems. Prepare, administer, score, and record the outcomes of various criterion-referenced and standardized tests to evaluate student progress.
Establish and sustain prompt and effective communication with parents and staff regarding each student’s progress using various methods, including a home page. Assist with parent conferences as necessary to discuss a student’s progress and explain the school program.
Select and order books, instructional aids, and supplies, and keep accurate inventory records. Carry out basic attendance accounting and business services as needed.
Maintain professional competence by engaging in district-provided in-service education activities and self-chosen professional development activities. Participate in faculty and district meetings and committees and work collaboratively with the administrator to set and achieve annual goals and objectives.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Prior experience as a classroom teacher or in a comparable role.
- Familiarity with diverse teaching methods for reading and math at the elementary level.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- A composed and resilient disposition.
- Ability to collaborate effectively as part of the Title I Team.
- Assess students’ academic and social development, communicating findings to the regular classroom teacher.
- Maintain proper records and compile progress reports.
- Ensure timely and effective communication with parents and staff regarding individual students’ progress.
- Manage the selection and ordering of books, teaching aids, and supplies, keeping accurate inventory records.
- A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required.
- Possession of SC Teacher Certification.
