CHURCH OF THE GESU Athletic Director Job Description Position Summary: Church of the Gesu is seeking a dedicated and passionate Athletic Director (AD) to oversee all athletic programs at Gesu Parish. The ideal candidate will promote physical fitness, sportsmanship and teamwork among our athletes in a program that is student-focused with an emphasis on teaching and developing individual talents. The AD will promote and uphold Catholic values and foster a supportive environment for all participants. He/she reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with Parish and School administration, the Athletic Advisory Committee and the Booster Board.
Responsibilities: • In consultation with the AC, establish and implement the policies of the athletic program in accordance with those set forth in the Gesu Sports Information Handbook and the Diocese of Cleveland CYO. • Ensure that all coaches, volunteers, and athletics program employees have met requirements with regard to the CYO Coaches Development Program, Diocese Virtus Training, NFHS Concussion Training and Sudden Cardiac Arrest. • Coordinate all aspects of the athletic program including registration, recruitment of coaches, scheduling, facility use, staffing, uniform hand-out and collection, etc. • Work with the Booster Board to develop and work within an annual operating budget. • With the Booster Board, develop uniform and equipment standards, inventory levels and competitive bid purchase contracts whenever possible. Purchase, distribute and collect all team uniforms and equipment for each sports season. • Secure facilities as practice sites (contracts, permits, availability, etc.) and coordinate with coaches to build practice schedule. • Attend all Diocesan CYO meetings, monthly Booster Board meetings and AC meetings. • Establish an athletic events calendar and coordinate these events with school and parish activities. • Work with the Chief Operating Officer, School Principal and Parish Maintenance Staff to ensure proper use, security and upkeep of all athletic facilities and equipment, including post-game and post-practice clean-up. • Engage with volunteers to ensure each grade level, sport and team has enough coaches and work with those coaches to determine appropriate roster sizes to maximize playing time for student-athletes. • Ensure compliance with Intramural and CYO league and coaching rules, safety guidelines, and school policies for all athletic activities, including having updated physicals on-hand for all athletes. • Collaborate with parish and school administration, parent volunteer groups, and parents to promote the athletic program and encourage student involvement. • Organize and oversee assessments, practices, games, and tournaments, maintaining accurate records of team achievements and individual student participation. • Encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, and integrity among student-athletes, coaches, and spectators. • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in elementary school athletics and integrate new ideas into the program when appropriate.
Qualifications: • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. • Understanding of Catholic values and the ability to integrate them into athletic programs and interactions with students. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students, parents, coaches, and volunteer organizations. • Knowledge of athletic rules, regulations, and safety standards applicable to elementary school sports. • Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes the holistic development of students through athletics. • Certification in CPR and first aid (preferred).
Working Conditions: • This position may require evening and weekend hours during sports seasons and special events. • The Athletic Director will work both indoors and outdoors, overseeing practices and attending games and tournaments. This is a non-exempt position with an annual earnings range of $38,000 - $41,000.
