Benedictine High School Food Services Leader Position Overview The Food Services Leader reports to the Director of Food Services and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the high school cafeteria, ensuring the provision of nutritious, appealing, and cost-effective meals for students and staff. This role involves managing food preparation, staff supervision, compliance with health and safety regulations, inventory management, and maintaining high standards of customer service. Benedictine is in the process of transforming secondary education using technology and innovative programs to meet the changing needs of our students. Responsibilities: Operational Management: Oversee the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals, ensuring adherence to standardized recipes and portion control. Plan and implement menus in accordance with nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions. Ensure timely and efficient meal service to accommodate school schedules. Monitor and maintain food quality, presentation, and temperature standards. Identifies maintenance needs and notifies the food service director. Seeks clarification when directives/expectations are unclear. Staff Supervision: Addresses issues that arise during the absence of the director of food services. Actively monitors, assists/instructs and empowers assigned staff to improve performance. Helps plan/deliver food service staff in-service training programs as directed. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment. Conduct regular staff meetings and training sessions. Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding food safety, sanitation, and nutrition. Conduct regular inspections of the kitchen and dining areas to ensure cleanliness and safety. Maintain accurate records of food production, inventory, and safety inspections. Implement and enforce health and safety policies and procedures. Inventory and Budget Management: Manage inventory, order supplies, and maintain accurate records. Monitor and control food costs to stay within budget. Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers. Perform regular inventory audits and adjust orders based on usage patterns. Customer Service: Address and resolve customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints. Implement initiatives to improve student and staff satisfaction with cafeteria services. Promote healthy eating habits and nutritional education.
Administrative Duties: Prepare reports on cafeteria operations, including financial performance and compliance with nutritional standards. Participate in school committees and meetings as required. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for food services. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma minimum. Current certification in food service management, food safety, nutrition, or related fields.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food service operations, preferably in an educational or institutional setting. Supervisory experience preferred. Hours: The hours will be from 7AM - 2pm with a half hour unpaid break for 180 school days Skills: Strong leadership and team management abilities. Uses active listening/problem solving techniques. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations. Proficient in inventory and budget management. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Physical Requirements Ability to perform physically demanding work and stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Ability to work in a kitchen environment with exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
